pointed blade, opinions please

Too much guard, for my taste, with our deer up here you`ll end up using all that 4" blade and be wanting more to work on the vent....the guard will get in the way. But for the other parts of the gutting you wouldn`t want any more than 4". shorten that guard considerably and you will gain a few more inches of reach to do the vent properly...a 6" blade 3/4 to 7/8 works perfectly in that area, but not so good on the rest. just my thoughts again.

that profile is very close to my personal preference: straight back, shallow up-sweep to the point, a slim profile overall.

everyone has to have , therefore lots of sales , then a real long vacation .

That's going to be hard to do Bill. I agree with LH that a smaller guard would make it a better user but it sure LOOKS good just like it is.
Other than that, I wouldn't change one da#n thing. Nice, Nice Knife.

I like it as it is - no spacer. I guess Nap and LHKnives are right. For the intended purpose the guard might be a little to big - I would buy it as it is though :)

Bill, I love the blade shape, size and what a cool use of cable! You have great ideas on the handle, guard and pommel. I really like the transition from rustic at the pommel to pristeen at the blade tip. I would put just a smallish cable damascus pommel on it. So small and recessed that it isnt visible from the side view. dont smooth off too much handle texture and simple spacer of black fiber and deeply etched cable d. No bright colors just blacksmith art. I would buy it if I had the money. IMHO

In any case please post the finished knife

Bruce, I fooled with it and finished it today, I kept going over and over this knife and it just seemed like something was missing, so I took the guard and ground it just a bit shorter like Hen suggested, not real short cause I like a guard on a knife when I'm working blind in a bloody deer cavity, put 2 thin (.020) pieces of red spacer material between the guard and stag, just to dress it up a little and to highlight the guard -stag junction, and then drilled and put a 3/16" pin I made out of a strand of twisted cable. I'll get a picture tomorrow and post, but its kind of neat becauce every piece of steel on the knife is from cable. I debated on cutting off the crown and attaching a pommel, but it just felt to good in the hand the way it was. I guess I could still hollow out the crown and place in a piece of cable to cap.

Thanks everyone for your comments

Bill

bill, i would lose the guard and go with the index cut out and find a piece of stag that is whiter in color. with the great dark contast you have in the damascus a white bone or stag handle would really bring out the pattern.
