poison sumac?

Found this behind my place today. Is it poison sumac? Its got the leaf shape and red stem. Or is it just an innocent harmless plant..I don't want to find out the hard way

I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't quite look like poison sumac from what I recall. But I'm with you, sure wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

Poison sumacs do not have toothed leaves.

More likely to be a smooth sumac.

Maybe Pale Hickory?

it appears to be different from that which I've encountered The plant you show has rounded and slightly serrated leaves while poison sumac (at least the version I'm familiar with) has pointed leaves with smooth edges

I wonder if that's not a Walnut sapling? Are there any adult walnut trees nearby?

I do not know what it looks like, but I do know you do not want to get it. I've not had it, but I know someone who has. Very nasty stuff.

Sure does look a lot like poison sumac, but it doesn't grow that far south to my knowledge. And as mentioned, poison sumac has smooth leaves.
