Saw Bear last night pole vaulting across and down a rocky mountain side to navigate. Has anyone done this? Across streams etc? Looks like I might break an ankle.

for god sakes man, dont try anything you see him do. Its a good way to die. I look at his show, like I watch MTVs Jackass. Its funny to see him do stupid stuff, but leave it at that.

+1

Very good analogy, Bear Grylls = Johnny Knoxville of the outdoors. Chris

Pole vaulting across a white water stream when you are landing on slippery rocks doesn'tt sound all that smart to me.

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed but there was a long length of that same show last night where the camera was behind him and every time they came back to him his knife was on a different side of his body. LOTS of editing and reshooting.

Like J said - watch Bear for an idea of what NOT to do.

If you have the skills then why not? Bear is fit, has above average balance, huge balls, and some pretty damn good climbing skills. No, I can't see some 50 year old dude with a titanic beer gut, and the muscle tone of pudding trying to attempt shit like that.

Bear is nothing but an adrenaline junky. He reminds me of that neighbor kid that no one likes, so he continuosly does stupid things to try to impress his peers.

See the thing is, he is suppose to be teaching survival skills. I don't care how fit or well balanced you are; if you're alone and need to get out, the safe way is to go slow and be careful. Pole vaulting down a mountain is kind of stupid if you are alone. Bear has his camera crew and med team on site, so if and when he gets hurt, he will get immediate care.

Yeah, Im fit and ballanced, and have huge balls, but im not stupid either.

When you say balanced, I assume you don't mean mentaly.....

On another note. Why in hell did he use a rock to baton his knife through the tree when I saw plenty of down wood that could of made do. The knife took the abuse, but still; if it had broke then what......

He wouldve got another out of the truck!!

No not mentaly ballanced by far!!! Physically, I do alright.

You know, I kind of miss having cable TV. No more laughing at Bear and his crazy stunts. Also miss the footage from the fantastic places they drop his crazy @ss.

Given a choice, though, I'd much rather watch Survivorman instead.

I will say that even my deranged mind has never come up with the idea of pole vaulting across streams in the mountains. That show must have some good writers to come up with some of the silly stuff Bear does. Or a couple 9-year-old boys. ;)

Why oh why must some of you put down my hero? Everyone knows that pole vaulting is the safest way down a loose rocky slope. Did you catch Bear eating bear crap? What a man!

STUPID THINGS? BEAR? SAY IT'S NOT SO!!!! u mean like free climbing a vertical water fall with the runns, only to stop and crap half way up..... oh and they forgot to edit out the path the locals use to get up and around the falls.... fun to watch but use ur head when ur in the woods... if ur soloing just a sprained ankle can become a very bad thing very quickly.......

Bear does the same stupid stuff I already did when I was still a little boy. What a poser.;):D
