While in Chicago recently, I spent my first-ever eye-opening afternoon at the Chicago Art Institute. There I found an amazing huge room filled with old metal weapons and armor. Swords, daggers, poleaxes, some of them 500-700 years old. My highest recommendation.
Oh yeah, I think they have paintings, too.
My question is this: anybody know of a collection of comparable quality elsewhere?

The Von Klienbush collection at the art museum in Philadelphia is a must see weapons collection. They have a hand-and-a-half sized falchion with ivory scale handles and gold bolt heads. That is my favorite.

If you enjoy weapons in general and knives in particular, i would suggest the military museum at the U.S. Army Academy located at West Point. They have a great collection on display.

If you are ever in NYC, check out the Armor room in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. From crossbows to Colt SAA's and every knife and sword in between. Life sized wooden horse sculptures with the armor suits on them! Great stuff, must see!

The Confederate Museum in New Orleans is another good place to check out, there are some great examples of edged weapons as well as guns.
