Police arrest 1,200 in London knife crackdown

So, if I've done my math correctly, 98.04% of the people being searched aren't carrying "weapons". With such a low percentage of "violators", how the heck do they justify continuing these witch hunts? I wish the British people would say enough is enough and put a stop to this nonsense (before it spreads).

You mean like the millions that marched in the UK against the War in Iraq. Yeah, if an approach like that can't influence the government what can!?

Hopefully, you can vote the bums out of office. (Of course we haven't had much luck with that here in the US either. :()

Please note that I am only agreeing that politicians like to ignore their constituents. I'm glad that the anti-war crowd did not hold sway on that issue.

Wether you personally agree or disagree on a given issue is irrelevant. The point was that protests won´t move politicians unless they are from a very potent pressure-group.

Thread high-jack in progress:

Also, the US government has only itself to blame for people opposing the war. Had they stated their goals clearly and honestly, i.e. removing from power a dangerous madman who would cause havoc in the region, a lot more people would have agreed.

Unfortunately, they instead tried to use weapons of mass destruction and links to Al-Quaida, both claims they should have known were highly dubious at best. In doing so, they caused a lot of anti-american sentiments around the globe.

I for one hope that it is a lesson learned for the politicians. Spin-doctors usually end up doing more harm than good. If you have an argument for your actions, give it to us straight. Don´t pay some dork to make up "facts" that eventually blow up in your face.

Apparently you misread my post; "Please note that I am only agreeing that politicians like to ignore their constituents." I agreed with his point; that politicians don't listen to the public. I added "I'm glad that the anti-war crowd did not hold sway on that issue" because I didn't want my concurrence with his point to be construed as supporting the wacko liberal conspiracy theorists who feel the war is evil, Bush lied, the 9-11 attacks were staged, or any of the other nonsense that misinformed people bandy about. Sorry for confusing you.

Politicians don' lie, don't misinform people (yes, Bush IS a politician)? ROFL! :D

If you think that politicians don't lie than you probably need more help than anyone I know! LOL! ;)

Nice one 'MEYER' I'm glad that your view is now a dying breed.;)

If you think that voting for the current select candidates will change anything I think you are further deluded. Who would you like: "Devil number 1", "Satan's little helper 2", "Monster Racist Number 3 (BNP)", "Beezlebub's little whore number 4" etc etc.?

Business is all about lying. People are making a lot of money on the events of today. It's happening ALL THE TIME! Why is that sooo difficult to accept?

-Crosses out London in places to visit- Yup, never going there.
It would be nice for travel agencies to find out why people aren't going to the UK and other knife-unfriendly places. The tourism industry is big $$$; lack of interest in travel hurts this industry badly.

Tom, I don't think this knife-nonsense is going to demonstrably hurt tourism to London. :)

If you believe the Brits, their streets are infested with maniacal, knife-wielding, criminal children. They´re even introducing curfews for adolescents:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/jul/09/ukcrime.children

That´s right, if you´re under 16, you must be home by 9 P.M. I mean, come on, on a summer night, why shouldn´t kids be out till 10 or later? It´s not even dark.

And of course it´s "voluntary" except... well, it isn´t.

If the parents do not act, agencies such as social services and housing officials will be brought in, with action then taken against families.

Because obviously, having your kid enjoy a summer evening with friends means you fail at parenting. :jerkit:

The crackdown on kives and things like "Operation Goodnight" (great name by the way) seriously makes me doubt the sanity of British politicians.

I used to live in the UK and even after I left, I would go there on holidays quite often. Well, no more.

There is no limit to the pandering a cheap politician will do. :D
Of course there is. That's why they eventually move on and become expensive politicians. :p

I believe Mark Twain is the source of the saying that "America deserves the best politicians money can buy," but I can't find a really authoritative source for the quote that "An honest politician is one who, when he is bought, stays bought." :D
