Hey all been lurking awhile now but did have a question. I am thinking about a Police or Millie as a work knife. I like the size and the SS handle of the Police and the ease of cleaning the millie. I do maintenance so the knife will see some use but I don't abuse my knives either, so which would you get? Please no other recommendatons just if you had to decide between these two. I have an endura 4 and a few other smaller knives but looking for a bit longer blade.

Do you have the ability to handle the knives? I perfer to "try before I buy", as I find that it is the ergonomics which most often decide which knife I like more.

i dont have the police so just from what i know, i have just the mille, got it a few days ago...
my opinion...the police is heavier, and could get slippy on your hands on ocasions, being all metal.
the military has a wider blade, and its lighter, grippy with its g10 handle, very very ergonomic
your choice, lets see what others have to say

The Military is among the best handled knives out there. You can get a secure grip in any orientation and even with heavy gloves. I find the Police too slim to grip well, and while I generally like metal handles, not when I don't have enough handle to hold onto.

The Military is so flat and lightweight, it's easy to carry, and the blade is more durable than many people think, seeing how pointy the tip is. You won't find a better slicer outside of a dedicated kitchen knife.

The only advantage the Police has is comfort for carry IWB.
For cutting stuff, the Military wins. For ease of cleaning, go Military. The Military wins for grip, and has the choil(and jimping!).
I'd recommend the Military.

Unless you're going to beat the tar out of the knife, the Military is it.

The Military is big, light, and designed to make cutting stuff feel as natural as possible.
It makes most other knives seem like they were made for digging.

I used to do maintenance last summer, and I'd say that I wish I had the Military back then. It's a great knife and the G-10 handle feels great and secure. It won't slip in your hand like the SS handle of the Police will. If your hands get wet (sweat, doing plumbing work) or really dry (drywall powder gets everywhere) then the SS police won't do you any good.

The Military has a great grip and will slice through anything you put it up against. It's open construction will make it easy to clean (we all know that drywall gets EVERYWHERE!). Hope this helps, J.

I love both and own both.

The Military is a vorpal blade in a light package.

The Police is a piercing tool in an heavy package.

Again.
I love both.

The Police is able to cut deep.
The Military can pierce through kevlar.

My advice:
get both !

Two excellent products.
You will find mondane use for both of them.

(Police is a great steak knife
Military is a great whittling blade...)

I would take the Millie! If you want to wait it out someone might have a G10 handle Police but those are hard to find. I have the best Millie because it is a FRAMELOCK that was done by STR! It is AWESOME!!! Good Luck! Kevin

OK I would go the Millie too.

But the Police is fast and sexy!

Cheers
JM

For maintance use, I'd probably recommend different choices, but of those two I'd go with the general sway and say the Military.

Further, I'd go with the S30V version, maybe with partial serrations if cutting zip-ties and such at work.

I'd go for the Millie as well, if fact, it's in my rotation of work knifes. Don't try to use it for anything other than a knife and you will be fine:)

My current drywall knife is the S90V sprint run Military. It holds up to that kind of use better than anything else I have found so far. It is a hard working knife that can take a lot more than people seem to think...as long as you remember it is a knife, not a screwdriver or crowbar.

The Police is a great knife as well, but it runs afoul of the 4" maximum length law here. So even though I have five of them, I (almost) never carry them.

I have and have had in the past a number of different Police and Millie blade combinations.

Until the G10 Police comes out at the end of the year...Go with the Millitary. If you're cutting zip ties, things like that, get a serrated or partially serrated Millitary.

Ok Millie it is......Now do I get the D2 or S30V?

D2 is a lot tougher than S30V, so for work I'd say the D2. That's not to say that the S30V is bad for work, because it's my favorite knife right now and it's done a great job at being a knife.

Just ordered up a millie. Thanks for the quick feedback. Got the S30V did not appear that they offered a combo edge in the D2
