Police, Sheriff's, Corrections, Security

On and off duty I have either a ZT 0550 or 0560. On, I also have a Ka-Bar TDI on my duty belt, weak side. I carried a BK11 for a little while (neck carry) but the bottle opener will booger up a vest pretty quickly!

Deputy Sheriff here, I had been carrying a Cold Steel AK-47 for almost two years but here lately I have been carrying a ZT 0561. I usually carry a Vic Swisstool Spirit in one of my bdu pockets too.

Officers have wide of selection of blades!,your Captain!! Ti-lite with a suite,,that is great,,,It made me smile..I remember at a wedding my buddy wearing a tux and yes with a nice blade on the right side front pocket
I carry a Spyderco Military and a Buck Companion slip-joint off duty. On duty, I carry a Spyderco Harpy in my back right pocket (the serrated blade cuts flex cuffs very well), a Cold Steel X2 Voyager in my right sap pocket (the old model with the six inch blade), a Gerber multi tool on my duty belt, and a Leatherman Micra on my keychain. Oh yeah, my money clip is an old 70's era flat, wood-inlaid Gerber with a knife blade and nail file. I carry it on and off duty.

Sounds like the deputies I work with have a little better taste than the officers most of you guys are describing. I'm with a 2400+ sworn officer sheriff's department, and at my station alone, which has 200+ deputies assigned, I know numerous people who carry Benchmades, Spydercos, Cold Steels, Bucks, a couple who carry Emersons and Pro Techs, one who carries a Hinderer, and one who carries a Strider. I know of at least a dozen who carry those Kabar TDI, angle-handled fixed blade knives on their belts. About the cheapest I see are CRKTs, Smith and Wessons, and (newer) Gerbers. Our captain, who dresses in a suit while at work, carries a six-inch bladed Cold Steel Ti-Lite dirk.

Is your ak-47 the model with the Grivory pommel or is it aluminum

I'm a police officer, patrol, in the 20th largest police department in the United States. On the job I EDC a Victorinox Deluxe Tinker. :)

I carry a cheaper end Spyderco, either Persistence or Tenacious. They just take too much abuse to carry something expensive. I had a Boker Kalishnikov Auto for a while, which I like because of the deep carry clip...but that eventually broke off and the tanto blade got all jacked up after having to pry a couple thumb screws or window screens. I guess it depends what kind of work you're doing but I've lost others hopping fences, etc. And then there's the old problem of shit going missing around a PD...Leave $100 bill sitting in the locker room and no one will touch it because they think it's an IA plant....but leave a piece of gear (sunglasses, knife, spare battery...etc) in briefing or write-up and that shit will disappear quicker than an 18 year old's virginity at a frat party.

I have seen a lot more guys going to the Kabar TDI on their belt. And I have a Cold Steel Peacekeeper II molle'ed on to my entry kit but that's not really EDC.

Once working as a deputy in the jail I very heavy prisoner had braided a rope long enough to hang himself. I found him hanging from the rail of a top bunk, his weight had tightened the knots so tight I could not untie them. I cut the rope with my pocked knife and was able to revive him.
Survival or death was a matter of seconds, thankfully he lived.

He was in for a misdemeanor offense and latter found not guilty. Went on to become a pillar of the community.

Every time we conducted a search we found some home made knives in the jail. Taking the possession of reasonable knives away from jail personnel is a joke in my book and may endanger the lives of some of the wrong people.

The guy had only a misdemeanor and he was going to kill himself?

One thing I've learned: arrestees may do things for a reason, they may do something for a bad reason, they will often do something for no discernable reason whatsoever

There's just no accounting for a lot of things they do and they can and will do anything at anytime for no reason at all.

I did a short push at my department's lockup and I also found a guy hanging from his blanket. My partner cut him down with his knife, a SOG Flash, yeah I remember, and he lived. Then the issue was how to explain to brass why my partner had a knife inside lockup; forget saving the guy's life. Welcome to beauracracy.

I have a lot of nice knives but the one I carry on my duty belt is a Byrd Wings G10. It's perfect for cutting seatbelts. It also came with a sheath that fits perfectly on my duty belt. I leave it on there all the time. I'm also not afraid to it getting messed up because I only paid 29 dollars for it.
