Police special time line

Hello I have a Police special G-2 serrated and I was wondering the timeline that these knives have taken from where they started to where they are know...

Anarky - The originaol "Police Model" came out in about '84. The pattern was the same as the current model. The egges of the handle were not chamfered, the lock release a little further forward then it is now, and the blade had the etching "Pride - Integrity - Guts" lined up vertically so the "PIG" (larger and darker) was visible when the blade was folded. It became known as the "PIG" knife. (Made about 2,000 - plain, serrated, right and left handed).

We yielded to customer presssure and changed to POLICE MODEL, I believe this is when we began chamferring the edges of the handle. Later, we switched to POLICE.

There are many oddballs though. There was a least a few hundred made that didn't say anything (whoops). There are titanium handle versions, ATS-34 versions, G-10 handle versions. There are aluminum variations and aluminum with "Tufram" coating.

The Pollice Model "Pattern" is a classic shape. Large blade / handle ratio, fits most hands, flase edge drops below handle so it can be sharpened (ill eagle). Can be used as a "Yawara". The stainless versions were often used to break windows. One SS Police model stopped a 9mm slug and saved the officers leg.

The current G-10 handle, ATS-55 flat ground variation I believe might be the most evolved to date. Between handle materials, blade materials, etchings and stampings, I'll bet there are more than 20 variations of this one pattern. There is even one carbon fiber handle-ATS-55 version overseas. We didn't plan it tht way.

We'll probably find more ways to play with the design. We plan to eventually fit a Rolling lock to the POLICE model. By Summer, there will be a "Swiss Police" version (called the POLICE 88mm) because of new blade length limits in Switzerland (must be under 90mm - abour 3.5"). Hope I got it all.

I like the idea of a rolling lock on the Police Model. I sell REKAT and am a believer in that lock.

What I would like to see is a G-10 Police with a liner lock, like the Wegner. It seems that the new flat ground version (serrated) with the extra liner would be a natural for this. It appears to be built just like the Wegner, except for the locking system.

I have discussed this with several customers and the consensus was that this might be a really good idea. What do you think?

Are we possible going to see a flat ground carbon fiber police here in the States?

Rolling Lock Police sounds really good, whenever I carry a Police I call it the Longsword. I like the design a whole heckuvalot.

I know a man that carries three of them.

You may want to travel the following hyperlink/wormhole to the Spyderco Forum, where I am building interest in a knife I like to call the Worker 2000, hopefully one day made by Spyderco. Your interest and innovation would be appreciated.

One may want to keep an Eye out for my review of the Bob Kasper designed, Kevin Gentile modified AFCK and interview of Bob Kasper. Sorry about the wait, my review and interview should be online shortly, look for it right here at BladeForums.com. The delay has been getting pictures, luckily Spark has graciously offered to do the pictures. Knife writer I may be, photographer I am not, yet.
