I would just get them shaped and finished up to about 1500 - 2000 grit.
Then hit lightly on a semi-loose wheel with NO COMPOUND on it.
I keep a dedicated 'clean' wheel for stuff just like that.
If you get compound into the cracks and crevices of sheep horn - you've got a mess.
