Now where is that beer? :D

Interesting!
Hmmm i have a Camillus Campanion blade blank here.
I bought some nice ironwood scales for it and was going to put them on in the next couple of weeks.
You guys are inclining me to strip and polish it before re-handling it!
Any downside to this?
How much work is it to strip off the black?

Pick up some aerosol paint stripper and you'll have it off in 15 minutes.

Thanks Ethan.

After a couple years of use, much of the coating was worn off.

I used a Craftsman 4" X 36" bench sander with a 36grit belt to remone the coating and smooth it out.

It looked like this for a while:

I later "customized" the 6" disk on the sander so I could use 3M HookIt II (velcro backed) sand paper. I went from a 120 grit and worked my way down to 600 grit. When I was done with that, I polished it by hand with 3M Trizact 1500 and 3000 grit wet. A bit of overkill but I was bored.

The hardest part was avoiding heat issues. Sand a little, cool it off, sand a little...

Because the velcro backed paper has a bit of cushioning to it, it kinda knocked down the edges on the swedge. I'd have like to kept the swedge line a bit sharper but, eh, live and learn.

Total time couldn't have been more than two hours af actual work. Having a good variety and stock of sandpapers helped.

Great looking with the black off. Where does one find the Kydex sheaths for that big bowie and for the combat 7?
