I recently recieved a JK Knives Belt Hawk. The micarta handle is dull green. I would like to polish it so that it matches my other knives, that have polished micarta scales, better.

Any advice would be appreciated. Here's what it looks like now:

That looks like it's canvas micarta. Canvas doesn't get a real crazy high gloss finish like paper or linen would. From what I've heard a buffer is really the best way to polish it up as much as possible.

You just need to sand it very thoroughly, on up to 1200-1500 grit. It really does take quite a bit of sanding to get it smooth enough to get any sheen out of buffing it.

White compound seems to work better than pink for me.

When you are done, a few coats of high quality wax, like Renaissance wax, and a clean buff, will bring it around.

I've had really good success polishing canvas micarta using the technique that Griz laid out. Good luck!
