Polishing out Scratches - Laminated steel?

So, I have a Kershaw with a scratched blade.
It's VG-10 laminated between two softer steels (420J2, etc probably).
There are sharpening scratches semi-perpendicular to the edge, near the tip, and one deeper one near the middle of the blade.

Would polishing be any different from the other procedures mentioned in other threads?
E.g.
A) sandpaper supported on block - various grades, going from 200 or 400 grit up to 1200 or 2000 (starting FIRST with the finest grit, to see if it polishes out, then finally, if not, going to re-polish the whole blade). Move flat to give even polished surface, alternating grit lines, but finishing off parallel to the blade for each grit - making sure scratches from the previous grit are completely removed.
