Polishing the blade finish

My karambit has lost its satin sheen on its blade. I think its due to contact to my skin. Only the area of the blade not tucked away by the handle has been affected. I tried buffing it with some rubbing compound, but the blade remains dark and dull. Any suggestions on how to bring back the original finish?

All my Satin EKIs went like that after a while, especially near the thumb disc.
I think its pretty much stuck there, you might be able to get it off with some thing like methanol or maybe lemon juice but i think its just part of the natural wear and tear on those blades.

I have had good results with Flitz metal polish on stainless pistol barrels. It might help in your case.

I just stripped my HD with green scrubbies and the finish looks just like the factory satin, only a little more dull. I like the look.

In the mean time here is a sneaky peek at my de-waved 12 ;)

The next time you see this it will be reground and fully "pimped"

Apologies to LaGriffe for the blatant thread hijack :)

I wasnt sure if i had made a mistake or not when i sarted but i realised it was the right choice one it was done.
I think it actually looks much better and its far more comfortable to put your thumb on the blade as well.

When its Tom K'd and got a new scale and back spacer it will be hard to beat i think :)

Yes, I'm as mad as a man can be :p
Iv also been toying with the idea since i got the 12. For me the wave gets in the way and i hardly ever use it so i decided to just remove it.
I find the wave is better on the smaller blades, i use the wave on my mini7s, kerambits and 14 but i just dont seem to use it on the bigger blades. I dont know why, it could just be the crazynes ;)

Haze--- Chuck Gedraitis just completed a no-lock, pinch-blade folder for me. The blade is A-2 and the handle is Red Micarta. Does that sound crazy?! i can't wait to get that one!

That sounds like a nice piece man, A2 is a great steel no question there.

Drop me line when you have it in hand, id like to have a look see at that.

OKEE DOKEE---I asked Chuck to post some pix since I have a hard time doing that! I'll let you know for sure. :)

You can e-mail me pics if you have problems posting them and il post them up for you. My e-mail addy is in my profile ;)

if you have a satin finish blade it is accually a ceramic coating and will not polish back to its original finish.

Not even if you strip, prep and re-do it?? the satin finish on my HD, came right off.
