Where are these rules?

On his exit Ken Cox decided to give me an infraction but did not ban me. Ban me? Are you serious? Tell me a mod does not have this kind of arbitrary power without consulting with other moderators. I don't think I did anything wrong. He claimed that there was a law that required companies to distribute cash to discredit my argument. I searched for the law and never found it. I called it nonsense, which means without value in the definition I was using. He cited rules I've broken, which I can't find anywhere. Why isn't there a sticky in the forum with these rules? He warned me for trolling after I pointed out he might not be objective in the most polite terms. He called another forum member a liar. I then asked for a listing of rules, which I never got.

Dear jhakken,

You have received an infraction at BladeForums.com.

Reason: Failure to follow Forum Specific Rules
-------
As I take leave of this forum, I have not banned you.

I see you making a sincere effort.

Fair enough.
-------

This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

Let's not go there.

And let's not make this antagonistic.

Suck it up. I have a very low tolerance level for anti-mod arguing in the Political forum. If more of you guys would show basic decorum and courtesy to each other it'd be a much nicer subforum.

Sorry if I'm being short, but the Political subforum brings out the worst in people (it seems).

So you can't tell me where these rules are or whether a mod has the authority to ban someone without peer review? I'm sorry I'm such a whiner but I did ask substantive questions that deserve an answer.

Spark is right dude, half the people in that forum arguing and fighting are there to do just that. I'll bet a good portion of them don't even vote.

Jhakken, for what its worth, no one can see your infractions except for the mods, and the mods generally extend one the courtesy of handling these things privately - which I appreciate. Point being that one must just swallow one's medicine, dust himself off, and recognize that no one really knows about it except you and the mod.

Edit: you asked about the rules, which are here.

1 point? Probably lasting 1 month?

Come on, Jhakken...Powernoodle is right; just take it and not worry about it.

Taken . Just want to understand and plan for the futher. But thanks guys.

That's good to know. I thought they could be viewed on one's profile. I have a couple that I thought were misinterpretations by the Mods and a couple I earned when new that were just embarrassing. :D

Have you ever tried clicking on a chicklet. You can see the points for the infraction, why it was issued, date of issue, and date of expiration if any. I believe it is true that you cannot see a list of another members total infractions anywhere.

Sorry for my ignorance but what's a chicklet?

It's like the yellow card red card system in soccer. A yellow card or "chicklet" is a warning. A red card or "chicklet" is an infraction. You will find them in the lower right-hand corner of the offending post. If you click on it you will be able to see the details. I'll see if I can find an example where some bonehead was banned after his first post.

Rules for politics: All's fair in love and war. But politics is not about love, baby, and it's supposed to be an alternative to war. So let's try a few simple rules, and maybe add a few guidelines if absolutely necessary. Follow these and some participants will leave. All the fun will go out of it for them.

The First Rule (of any forum except Whine & Cheese and Pirates Cove) is to treat others the way you want to be treated.

The Second Rule is to discuss the topic, not the other members. This is inherent in the First Rule: discussing others leads to dissing others, and no one should want that in the Political Arena. That's why we have Whine & Cheese.

The Third Rule is to discuss your ideas, do not assume them. That is called "begging the question", using your conclusions as an argument. It is circular reasoning which is not only useless but destructive to the idea of a discussion forum.

If you follow these three, you won't need others. There is a sequence to them: follow the first and the others become less necessary. We can work through anything if we stop insulting each others' intelligence.

Guidelines?

Deliberate denigration of "the other" is a guaranteed way to cut off reasoned debate.

If this is your personal definition of another political side, it is worthless. What the forum needs to debate is the definition "the other" provides of his own beliefs, not your mistaken impression of them.

If it is your characterization of another participant on the forum, it will be an infraction offense. We are not going to be internet psychologists or moral arbiters.

Oh, and yes, a moderator has the authority to ban someone without peer review.

Thanks dude. You've brought me up to speed once again.

Please notice the rules already posted as a sticky in the Political Arena:

Welcome to the Arena. Read before posting. UPDATED 9/11/08

Noted, 2008. I've also not been able to understand how my word "nonsense" earned an infraction based on those rules. Please, look at the definition of nonsense before telling me that shows disrespect anymore than the word "worthless." Of all the crap that is said on this forum I get an infraction for that? Also, if "sassing" the moderator is a punishable offense let's list it. Let's also make sure that it's the moderator who's being sassed and not the poster who is also the moderator.

I just want to go on record saying that I think Ken had a personal beef with me. I'm fine with dealing with an infraction or two but the threat that he might have banned me for using the word nonsense is an abuse of power. No mod should have the power to ban someone without, at least, a peer review. Afterall, mods are people too. Oh yeah, I got a warning for suggesting that one. I'm such a troll.

Also, if "sassing" the moderator is a punishable offense let's list it..

It already is.

I'm such a troll.

We already know that. What is the purpose of joining a knife forum where by nature the members are going to have a conservative lean and making the vast majority of posts in the political forum?

I didn't see sassing listed and I've read the rules sticky a couple of times. As for my posting in the political forum, I happened upon it. I spend lots of time on BF, not in PA, but I'm still on a learning curve and don't have much to offer others yet. However, a liberal perspective is often missing in PA and I can contribute that with aplomb. It's sad that you see that as trolling.

Regarding the Political Arena rules, infractions and banning, did anyone noticed that BLANNELBERRY was banned? He email me and asked that I present his goodbyes on his behalf.

I didn't see sassing listed and I've read the rules sticky a couple of times.

Read the FAQ. The rules for the Political Arena are for the Political Arena specifically. The rules for Bladeforums as a whole are in the FAQ. See the section on Warnings, Infractions and Bannings.
What are some of the things that can earn me a warning, infraction, or ban?

Good question. While we can't possibly list everything that you could possibly do to break the rules, here's a partial list.
