My choice was not listed, but of the models outlined I think I would go back to Buck. Then again, the nice thing about being a knife salesman is playing with all the pretty new toys...

Of course, right now I'm having a love affair with Spydercos.

Those knives don't belong in this forum Ichabod. When did you creep back? Do the mods know you're here? Have they lifted your banishment?

In the original post the question was best quality for the price. I think it also depends if you are a collector or an avid user. Collectors are more concerned with fit and finish, and materials that are representative of classic or contemporary design.

Avid users will be more concerned with durability, toughness, function and overall performance in spite of classic looks, fit and finish. I don’t have anything against a nice looking fine knife but after they’ve been in rough use for a while they won’t have the shinny show room looks they had when new. So quality is subjective when you consider what the actual reason for owning knives are. What it comes down to is it for looks or performance.

I understand some of what you are saying but I have to ask, why can't a knife look good and be a workhorse? Superior fit and finish should also equate to a better built knife, I would think.

The knife below no longer has its shiny look but it still is easily one of the finest looking knives I own and it is an exceptional working knife. Worth every penny I paid for it and then some.

GEC for overall quality, and Rough Rider for bang for the buck. I have a few of each category, and they all have their virtues and their failings. When it comes right down do it, I don’t carry any of them regularly. I carry a SAK and a couple of others that didn’t make the list.

I’ve had nothing but enjoyment from my GEC’s in quality and in variety of patterns and the stag I’ve had is excellent. They are the highest price of the traditionals I’ve owned.
The SAK/Wenger knives speak for themselves.
Case has been good to me but that shiny stainless screams at me.
In a very limited sample of older Schrade knives I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
My opinion of Buck folders based on last years forum knife falls into the category of “if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything.”
In bang for the buck Rough Ryder has some excellent knives but they have a ways to go before they’re in the same category as Opinel or Douk-Douk.

Boker is good.
The ones from Solingen, Germany

A whole lot of names missing from that list...

Yes, it is a pretty limited listing. Don't know why I didn't think of Boker, of which I have a good number....and quite enjoy.

Some others in my cabinet....
Frost (et al): Inexpensive, but sub par quality.
German Bull: Average price and quality.
Canal Street: My samples are quite fine. 2015 Forum Knife and K-bar Dogs Head (copper Barlow).
Sarge: have 6 inexpensive but decent fit/finish.

Great Eastern Cutlery makes the highest quality production traditional slip joint knives. The multi-bladed versions of them I buy seldom cost over $130. Some dual blades versions are under $100. High quality, beautiful hand made tools that cost about what one will pay for a dinner for two and a movie. Why should I buy anything else?

I don't care much for Buck slip joints, but a 112 Slim goes to work with me every day. Since the original question didn't specify only traditional knives, I felt compelled to give Buck a vote for quality for the money. Not to mention the classic 110, which is a lot of knife for the dough. I usually carry a Case as well, for the enjoyment of it more than the utility. I shop around and find good examples for a good price and since a Case is not my main work knife, their choice of steel is less important to me.

I absolutely love my 40+ year old Buck 303. I think it was made by Camillus though. Great fit and finish and smooth as butter operation with nice snap.

My brother has my old Buck stockman from about 1979 and won't give it back. I wish they still made them like that.

I would like to see Boker Tree Brand added to this poll.
I'm USA all the way but I've never had an issue with a German made knife by Boker Tree Brand but all the others listed in this poll I've had issues.
Edit / I’ve never purchased a Rough Rider
