I would like to see a CG so I could still afford the LBNMSHBM later on, but I think these are being done as LE because they have some nostalgia behind them and I wouldn't want to disparage that.

stripped my buds B11 today and it had a near perfect fricken satin finish underneath. Unlike my stripped b11 which has chatter marks on the ricaso and a dingy DCBB like finish, his was perfect. Looked damn near like my original satin B11 from knob minus the convexed edge, it was weird man.

Oh and I voted CG. Wont keep my from buying the LEs though.

to be clear I'm happy that it's being produced at all in a choiless option. Putting it in LE makes it compete with other full tang choppers like the CGBWM which can make it harder to rationalize for those who keep only one knife per category. I'm buying it to compete with and possibly replace my basic 11 and have shop credits, so it's less of a dilemma, but I'd sill like to see it's price point below the other knives of it's size, and closer to knives 3-4" shorter.

How about competition finish that cost the same as combat grade ?
No need for coating or for the expense of satin finish ?
It should even be cheaper that combat grade.
Take it off the grinder put some rubber handles on it & ship it out, woo hoo cheap beaters around 250.00 :)

Though I do like the idea of the tang being coated, I'd be happy with a competition finish if it was as cheap/cheaper than a cg option. Especially if it kept the edge down under .040".

CG and I would be in, despite the Scrapyard handles. Bummed about the Luxurious Expensive treatment on the "Basic" line.

Ah well, there will no doubt be many other excellent offerings in the future. Bring on the LBSHBM! :D

LVC - with your logic, which does make sense to me, my opinion doesn't matter. I don't plan to buy one. If I did I would go for the satin. I am waiting for something from Busse that I just can't resist. I already have a collection that I am happy with :)

I don't mean to say that you have to buy one to be worth listening to; past, potential, or guaranteed buyers are all part of the busse business base, and even if you never bought a single busse and never planned to, that persons opinion would be a good indication of what keeps the non-buying public away or what could bring them in.

Bring on the CG!! The Boss has listened to us before....maybe we can change his mind:thumbup:

Combat Grade all the way. Basics are users, and users aren't purdy.

There are a lot of reasons a satin blade would be preferred for a user. Especially as stain resistant as INFI is. But as has been said you can easily strip and scotchbrite a CG.

.
I agree with all of the above, I think that is where Busse has missed the mark in recent years, by making too many fancy wood handle knives that won't ever be used. Well that and no folder, the "real" basic user. Especially in the current economy, "Basic" users are what is needed. :D

Here, here!!

Also ... "Folder!!!":eek::D:eek:

Yep...that was my point exactly Rich. I just didn't spend the time to type it out. I agree with David Brown...grind'em at the factory, slap a grip on it, and ship the darn things....no coatings, no time spent purdying them up. I love me an ugly knife....and strippers rule, no scothbrite to cover up the imperfections here...

That's a great looking knife!

My FBMLE was my 'test' blade for how thin I could go with an edge. I had another INFI test where I finished a CG after stripping. I left an area alone, and also finished from about a 320 satin to a mirror finish in different spots. I left it in a bucket of grinder water for a few months. Left it out for a few weeks...put it back in. The mirror finish area had almost no rust. Rust progressed direct in relationship with lowering the grit of finish.

So for my FBMLE I went with about a 600 grit cork belt finish. IDK. I just tried to find what is best for a user. The smother finish also sails through wood. :)

The point is to be "as affordable as possible...?" Actually no, i'm pretty sure Busse is in business to make a profit. Can't blame em for that, but put me down as one more "cheap as possible" guy.

I don't agree that just because it has a satin finish instead of a coated finish, it is more profitable. I would guess that if you started each finish process from the same condition blade, it would take more time and effort to apply a satin finish than a coated (CG) finish.

As Wal-Mart teaches us; volume beats margins ….

only a very few of the fanciest blades do I like in satin... the orange/black G10 combos for me, and snakeskin.. everything else is CG... the extra money that goes into satin, just isnt' for me except on rare occasion. with the economy the way it is.. three satin blades = another Busse knife in CG grade.. and if worse comes to worse, and I want to see shiney, I've stripped a few and they look pretty good for field use...
