Hey Golnick! Sounds like you were carrying the knife upside down!

Being a habitually tip-down carrier, I probably was. But, don't tell me that you've never had a knife turn over in your pocket. A big, fat knife like an Emerson, for example, is probably significantly less likely to do that. But, I've been carrying an AFCK daily almost from the first day they came out and I can tell you that they are thinner and can turn over in your pocket. If you wear tight jeans, it's less likely to happen. But I usually wear slacks and I can tell you that even a thick knife can turn over in your pocket with looser pants.

The idea of catching on a thread inside the pocket is just another reason that tip-down is the way to go. It's intrinsically safe.

Ahhhh... now I understand. Yeah, I could see that happening, in which case tip down could be better. Although.... how likely is it that it might come open in the tip-down scenario, and when you sit, it slices into your femoral artery??! The only reason I ask is a doctor once noticed my carriage of a tip-down inside my waist-band in the front, and mentioned that it could happen. I suppose if it had ever actually happened to anyone here, we would have heard about it by now. Well, unless they died, and their survivors don't read Bladeforums...

Well, this has certainly turned out to be little of a poll, and much of a debate. Sorry, Professor.

IMHO, any clip in a tip down carry mode, would cover one of the axis lock protusions, making opening a relatively slow-going, and difficult process. Closing would also be more difficult once the lock was engaged.

I'm just glad we're getting the input.

I really, really want tip-down myself, since with the Axis, the draw-handle-flip-down will be faster and smoother than ever. However, personally, having seen good reasons here for both configurations, I'm leaning toward the Swiss cheese option.

Prof., you know my choice --- and I don't care for cheese with holes!!! I'm not complaining --- just glad BM finally introduced this version. It looks like the coating "argument" won't go away. Think we'll see a 3" version soon ??? Scratch the Bear !!!!

I gave my little reasons for wanting tip-up above, but, like everything else, it's really just a personal preference thing.

I don't follow you there. The Axis mechanism holds the blade closed-which is why they make them tip-up, I assume. Seems like a drop opening will be harder with an Axis than with the liner lock version. More on par with Spydie lockbacks, I'd think.

Gotta keep the votes coming.

I'm personally kinda surprised that the old-school carry config. ain't winnin', but then again, peas of a pod can sink like a log.

I'm a firm believer that all knives should be swiss cheesed. Usually I prefer tip-up but I can see the tip-down arguments also. I think each user should have the option of choosing for themselves which way they want to carry it.

Back up thar one more time...

Thanks to all who have participated!

Professor.
