I got it right and I was pretty certain of my choice from the start. It wasn't, however, because of being able to tell carbon steel from stainless steel from visual differences in the steel. It was because of a small difference between carbon and stainless Moras specifically that I'm familiar with that was still visible in the pic. Basically I cheated. :D

Lots of us are very familiar with Moras on here, so I doubt that I was the only one who noticed it. Some might not have even realized it conciously and just knew that the bottom one "looked" like a stainless Mora for some reason. Kinda makes one wonder if that affected the (nonscientific) results...

Not in my case. I don't know anything about Moras. I was clueless on the handle color too until it was explained. Are none of you guys seeing that yellow shift in the color of the steel that I pointed out? Maybe I am more sensitive to it since I've seen it a million times.

I didn't vote but would have got it right. The carbon has sharper grind lines. The stainless has a softer transition into the edge bevel. That's the case with the Mora knives I've received lately too.

It's pretty interesting that Natlek is telling us to look for yellow and Mecha for fish-like iridescence.

This homie I presume?

If you look at my earliest post where I cast my vote, it says the exact same thing I'm saying now. So...no.

I’m just happy someone else thinks it’s possible to see the stainlessness at all!

Tune in next week where I bloviate endlessly about harmonic resonance deadening in alloys, why it’s important in swords, and most importantly, how it’s possible to feel these harmonics in thin pieces of metal simply by Salad Fingering them. X)

It's not ALWAYS possible. In this case, it was. There are clearly a lot of guys here who haven't worked with these steels side by side very much for any considerable period of time.
