John Juranitch's book really helped me to understand freehand sharpening... DM

That's a good book on sharpening. I bought a copy and read it years ago. Still have it somewhere. I don't see it recommended much anymore but it's still a good read for new sharpeners to get an idea of what's happening, or what should be happening, when we sharpen our tools.

I have the Juranitch book as well. (Even have the video somewhere in a box in the garage.)

One of a handful of useful books on the subject in my small library.

Free hand. DMT red then strop on leather belt with green paste. Works for me. If I want to get fancy, I use 1000 grit sandpaper and then strop.

I use a Wicked Edge for my EDC knives. I like the flat bevel. I touch up on a SharpMaker.

For kitchen knives I just got the blade grinding attachment for my Ken Onion WorkSharp. I really like it a lot and highly recommend it.

The Ken Onion itself wasn’t easy for me to use - being left handed - it was awkward.

But with the belt grinding attachment on it - it’s a whole new animal. Very easy to use. And great results.

Work knives generally only see a dmt fine stone and a hose to be cleaned out.

Regular EDC knives see various stones and once in a blue moon I had to disassemble one and lube it. But haven't done that in at least 2 years.

Though I do have to toss my Leatherman micra in my ultrasonic cleaner with some dish soap to blast off the rust I found on it.

Wicked Edge for my high dollar knifes, 1" x 42" Kalamazoo for my kitchen knifes they are old and cheap.
