I think you guys that would like to see an upgrade U.S. made Tenacious should let Sal know what you think.:thumbup:

Flatlander,
I'll wait till I actually own a tenacious before casting vote. Just wanted to let you know your sig lines are great though erroneous, it should be you can't trust a man who isn't owned by a dog:D

I'd rather they concentrate on getting the Manix II on the street than go haring off on making a value/entry level knife into something the average buyer can't afford.

Not that I think there's anything wrong with manufacturing a Tenacious here in the US, but it seems to me like it would defeat the purpose that the Tenacious serves in the knife market. Upgrading the materials and manufacturing it here would bring the price up to a point where it would compete with many other favorites.

I think a small, limited run of a Tenacious design made in the United States would be nice. Certainly, it would defeat the purpose of the current Tenacious's price point, but I think that you could upgrade/downgrade any of the materials in Spyderco's line to meet an economical price point and still have a very effective, well-executed design.

The initial Tenacious is a folder designed to fit the needs of those looking for a great EDC at a very good price point. The second run of Tenacious could fit the market niche of those who own a Tenacious and have either become an afficianado of the design, or are the more upscale Spyderco buyer and user that prefers US manufacture and the excellent S30V steel and perhaps something like grippy carbon fiber.

Either incarnation would be great, the current Tenacious is a gem of a Spyderco at a Byrd line price point.

I wouldn't mind if they add a Tenacious II aslong as they keep the Tenacious I selling, as of now, a tenacious is already $65AUD down here :(.

I didn't articulate it but I see no reason why Spyderco would not offer both.
In Sal's reply to my suggestion I inferred that a Tenacious II type knife would be a sprint run if in fact they did one and by no means did he suggest it was under consideration.

I suppose the two options seem like an either/or.

The whole point of the Tenacious is the very high bang-for-the-buck. It might not be made of the best materials available, but it is made of the best materials needed for a very nice user knife. The Tenacious is in existence to give anybody the chance to own a quality (higher quality than many of the USA Spydercos I own) knife at the cheapest price possible. If you were to upgrade the Tenacious (VG-10/S30V, Carbon Fiber, USA made), it would be very similar to many of the $100+ Spyderco knives and no longer serve the original purpose of being affordable.

So true. But generically all Spydie's are very similar really. I had to go and look at the Spyderco offering at KnifeCenter. To be honest, if you segment by linerlock and lockback, only the Sage seems to be real close to a hypothetical Tenacious II but with a slight size difference.

Well I really like the size and blade shape and materials of the current Tenacious but would be delight with a premium blade.

I think if Spyderco continued to make the original Tenacious, then it wouldn't defeat the point of it being an affordable knife. It would just mean there would be a version with higher quality materials for knife people, such as us, who don’t mind spending more on their knives to get those higher performing materials. It would be nice if they made it part of their line up too, not just a sprint run.

I'm with Vivi and would rather spend the dollars on a Military. I'm OK with the Tenacious as is.

- regards

I didn't vote, because I probably wouldn't buy a Tenacious regardless. But I don't own a single knife that wasn't made in America. Out of - what am I up to these days? - 48 I think(?).

I will probably be buying a Tenacious tonight, and based on it's reputation I hope that it will be better than what I expect.

Having said that, if I find that I enjoy the Tenacious enough, I would welcome the opportunity to purchase a US made version with premium steel. Not as a replacement for the original Tenacious but as an additional knife with the characteristics I like from the original but with its own unique flair.

Beside, I would be inclined to buy it more so because it would be made in the US.

I think a frame lock version or, not for me but for other people a tanto version maybe? but the frame lock version would be pretty cool.

I would LOVE to see a Tenacious made in Golden, Colorado. I would love to see one with a bit thicker blade but with full flat grind still and either S30V or S90V. Could be a frame lock but the way Spyderco does liner locks is perfect.

Mmmmmmmm.....that would be tasty.

I'd love to see a Sprint Run of one or something, but I doubt that we'll see it inside of 3-4 years.

As I stated in the previous thread, the original Native was a lot of bang for not much money. But they did end up with a version that MSRP's for over $250. ;)

First, I'd like a black blade, black clip china Tenacious,

Then a USA copy with s30V for $60. Then I'd get it.
