But oddly enough, i never had that problem with my para 2's with the way i grip it. With the Manix tho, the spring is a tad strong for my little hand so that's probably why i had to grip a little bit tighter to pull it back and ended up with my finger being in the way.

Yes and No. Sometimes. Depends on the knife and lock.

On a slipjoint? No, I would hate a drop shut action.

On a axis/caged ball lock? Yes, because I can safely keep my hand out of the path of the blade.

It's ok to have on an Axis lock, when I know my fingers are out of the way, but I prefer a little resistance on liner and frame locks. I prefer to close my knives with a gentle shake or my index finger on the spine.

I think the "finger guillotine" fall shut knives are dangerous and mostly just for show on Instagram and Youtube, where the person is holding the camera in their other hand while they flip the knife around and talk about it.

When evaluating the engineering and fit of a knife, I like to see a pivot that can be adjusted from controlled closing to free-dropping while keeping the blade centered and blade-play free, whilst not interfering with blade deployment.

However, in use I always tighten the pivot to where closing requires a gentle shake and/or nudge from my index finger. I often wear gloves when using a knife and can't tell you how many brand new gloves have been ruined by free droppers.

I have mostly Benchmade knives and one of the reasons is I really like the axis lock and how the blade "snaps" closed. I use the clip to orient my fingers and know that they are safely out of the way when the blade falls closed. The compression lock is good too and I have never sliced my fingers (at least yet).

I do not like it. I don't want any of my blades (except my autos) to move until I move 'em, opening or closing. That's not a problem of most of the knives I buy and carry. The few that have exhibited that behaviour have been modified so that they stay put until I intervene.

axis and compression locks have always felt safer to me than a liner lock...I know my fingers are out of the way with the first two and the third requires ur finger to be in the closing path initially...no matter the lock there's always some way to get yourself cut

Yes, I guess?

The way I close a knife doesn't use gravity so if it drops shut, it means it also opens easily. I've cut myself a few times closing a knife but so few, I can't remember what knives or how they particularly closed.

I'm also in the sometimes category. I like it if the knife has a lock where you can have your fingers out of the way when disengaging it.

Hands down love it. I can't say I've never got a little over zealous closing something when serial fidgeting and gotten bit, but for the most part its now a problem. I typically close them face up and horizontally. To where I can disengage the lock, move my fingers, then turn vertical and tap. I love the drop shut feel. Practice makes perfect my friend.

I don't mind drop shut action, but I never rely on that to close. The tolerance from knife to knife is always different, and one way or another, I figure I am bounded to nick myself some day if I rely on drop shut action to close.

I usually prefer a bit of friction tbh. On liner and frame locks, I'll actively close the blade with my index finger.

Axis locks I'll fling shut - drop-shut isn't a problem here since I never have my fingers in the blade path. It's not necessary though - I'll take minimized pivot flex during hard lateral pressure over a free swinging blade any day, meaning I'd rather crank down my pivot.

I don't want to clip my fingers "Sometimes, not always". So I voted "No".

Like a couple guys commented, I prefer a controlled closing. Shiros HatiOn and F3, Anso Neo, Massdrop Keen, Trevor Burger EXK, a custom Laconico EZC are examples I own.

But ... I can always adjust the pivots to my liking.

As a Cold Steel carrier, all my Tri-Ad knives have that fall shut action or as I like to call it, “guillotine snap.” This doesn’t really bother me since I close my pocket knives with two hands. You just have to be careful not to put the tips of your fingers on the closing path. I don’t see the need for one-handed closing save for impressing the ladies.

Inevitably!! ... lol :p

I've been bitten by both. I like fall shut blades but I don't seek them out.
