POLL: Favorite Sharpener/Method

I use a Lansky since I have a hard time keeping the sharpening angle consistent. After polishing the blade with a sapphire hone, I strop it on a makeshift strop made from a leather belt impregnated with polishing compound. In the field I do touch ups either with a Spyderco medium/fine pocket stone or a Lansky medium/fine diamond stone.

I did freehand for years, and was never really happy with my ability to maintain an angle.

I found a Sharpmaker to be fast and easy to use, so now I use that.

Bought the Edge Pro Professional for my restaurant to keep the work knives sharp and now use it for everything. Even used it to sharpen my khukuri. Damn, its awesome!

DMT Diamond benchstones. Ceramic doesn't seem to do as good of a job; the diamonds seem to do much better "cutting" and therefore give a better edge. I don't like em too much for reprofiling, though because I'd rather have something that will ensure a consistent angle, some sort of a system for reprofiling.

DMT Aligner jig from extra course to extra fine
Will rebevel D2 with ease.

Then free hand on a EF DMT for touch ups

Freehand !
Profile on fine 600 diamond
Sharpen on Spydy Fine - Ultra fine alumina ceramic
Finish on Norton 8000 or Black/Translucent Arkansas

Norton stones first, if the knife is dull. Course, then fine crystolon. If I want a more polished edge, India would come next. All freehand.

Then I finish using course crock sticks at 15-20 degrees per side, angle dependant on the knife, around 10 times each side.

Then fine crock sticks at 20-25 degrees per side. I can get a very dull knife sharp in less than 10 minutes, with any steel I have had, including ZDP-189.

Free hand with DMT folding sharpeners,at home & out in the bush.I like to keep it simple.I've tried different things over the years & decided to use the same stuff at home that I would use when in the bush. Also, the more elaborate set ups I used to use at home were a disadvantage to me as I found it harder to sharpen free hand when away. Now my angles are always the same regardless of where I am.
