POLL: Favorite Sharpener/Method

DMT for re-profiling, sharpmaker for micro bevel then my new strop and compound from knives ship for free. One of the best investments I've ever made.

All of the above. Real bad ones get the belt sander treatment. I maintain the edges with sand paper from 400-3000 grit. I also have the Gatco and SharpMaker and the edge maker pro's. The EdgeMaker pro is amazing for all V edge knives.

I recently picked up the paper wheel system and am pleasantly surprised. Hair splittin, edges in a flash. I use a butchers steel for touch up...

I can't pick one answer because I use:

Freehand for reprofiling and touch ups,

Edge Pro for reprofiling,

A belt sander for reprofiling and convex edges,

A Sharpmaker for touch ups.

Most of the time I also strop, but sometimes I don't.

Which method I choose depends on lots of variables -- the type of knife, how I plan to use tyhe knife, how dull the knife is, how much time I have, how many knives I'm sharpening, etc.

sensi I would like to look at that system,do you suggest any shops online, that I could check one out, and also purchase supplies as needed?
Thanks,

Dave

Favorite method waterstones then loaded strop. I do like the sound of steel on my Norton waterstones. It is a cathartic experience for me.

But for heavy duty sharpening - I'll pull out sandpaper.

For light sharpening - the Sharpmaker is quick and handy.
