Spyderco offers so many excellent knives. I wonder what everyones favorite is? Mine is the Starmate. Why? Because of the premium 440-V, the handle ergonomics (which would be alot better if I could talk Corduroy into modifying mine like he did his http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum20/HTML/001228.html), and the fact that the century starfighter is one of my favorite designs. Of course I am going to buy a Wegner and the rolling lock military sounds good.

The Bladeforums Native is, in my opinion my favorite Spydie, the quality and finish are comparable to a custom made knife. The Starmate is a close second in every aspect and is my everyday carry. The BF Native is just too nice for "common" use.

Boy, this is a tough one. I highly value the Military, the Moran amd the Blue Native. I guess if I have to choose only one, I'd go with the Military, as it goes with me all the time and I never get tired of it.

Dennis, did you get my email?

I think I'll vote for the Civilian. There are a lot of Spydercos that are well-designed, well-made, and in excellent materials, but this one is also in its own class. A purpose-designed defensive tool, intended to facility escape and require minimal skill (or composure) to use effectively. So far I don't think another production company has even attempted to compete in this area, instead focussing in on "tactical" folders and "folding fighters" that make compromises for utility or require greater training. I also believe the S-curved blade is one of the only truly "new" blade shapes in decades. In short, it's a symbol of Spyderco's willingness to abandon conventional wisdom in pursuit of a better design.

I'll pick the original aluminum version for sentimental reasons. I do think the G-10 handle is grippier, lighter, and an all-around improvement, but the original model has a nicer and more complex construction, and a truly innovative pocket clip. I admit that for faster draw I replace this clip with a stainless one, but it was a good attempt to make a clip taht was more than tacked-on. Also, I'd rather the G-2 than ATS-55. My impression is that G-2 is more flexible and tough, and I don't care about edge-holding in a defensive role. A fine knife in any version, though... I can't wait to see what will replace it

Calypso Jr. for its perfect balance and outstanding ergonomics and flat ground blade. I also like it for its lightweight. Oh yea, its easy to open with either hand, also a pluss. Lanyard hole, also important to me, and this knife has a large one.

I think it is turning out to be my new Starmate.

My old model Endura gets the most use, so it must be close to my favorite.

Still perfer tip up carry and wish the Starmate had the option. It's just faster and more natural for me with knife clipped in the right front pocket.

This is a tough one. It's sort of like asking which is my favorite child? They're all different but I like them all! My wife still carries a pink ladybug and I read with interst the pink delicas that are out again. I'm never without my co-pilot and have attached it to my cash and walked into high security places with metal detectors with it.
However I purchased a worker that has some type of dull grey coating on it and looking it over find it to be as well made as some custom folders. Outstanding!

Dennis,

I too have great difficulty choosing only one. Talk about being unfair with such a question! Geez!

It is well know that I love the Moran Featherweight. I also love the Military, Starmate, Civilian, Tie Clip-it, Mini-Police and BFC Native. Now given two are pieces of jewelry, another a great defensive piece, one a fixed blade.... see where I'm going? I simply can't choose just one! <sigh>.

Sorry!

As some others have said, it is very hard to pick just one Spyderco becuase not only are they all nice knives, many are roughly the same size and overlap ech other in function. for example: the Standard, Delic,
Calypso, and Rookie are all pretty close in size and all blade designs are similar in lacking much belly. I think the perfect everyday Spyderco must the`Delica or Native. They have a good medium size that is bug enough for work but won't scare people who except for the most paranoid. They have easily sharpened blades and are not so expensive that you get real depressed if you break or lose them.

My favorite large Spyderco is the Starmate. It is simply a gorgeous knife!

Tough question!
Fave raves are:
1.)Wegner
2.)Starmate
3.)Military
4.)Moran
The first three are constantly warring for a place in my right pocket trying to displace my Carnivour. They are gaining more ground in recent days as I am coming to more fully appreciate their many virtues.

Most used by far is the:
Cricket

It goes to work with me every day, & some weeks it opens at least a hundred cases. At the end of the day it goes back in the glove box until the next work day.
Sure wish I could try out my other Spydies on the job, but I work for a paranoid corporation that seriously frowns on blades over 2" in length. Bummer.

I carry my BF Native almost daily. But, my Starmate is the one I take out of the safe and play with. Now if I could talk Drew into converting my Starmate...

I have many of the models, and most of them are saved for "good" and "what if senerios", but somewhere around seventeen years ago, I think it was, I stumbled upon a standard model. It has served very well ever since. Get used for scraping mud and greased caked parts, cutting weed/stubble clogs in the field, and who knows what else. If I lost, or retired it tomorrow, I could get another one for something less than fifty bucks. Can't beat that! And speaking of retiring it, I have been carring a new Endura. It may just take over "favorite" status!

I think if someone asked me "so, what the heck is a Spyderco?" I'd show them the BF Native, the steel Rookie, the Endura, and the Civilian. So I guess those are my favorites.

The one I don't own yet; the next one on my list!

What is it? The Bob Lum.

Or maybe my trusty Calypso Jr, SS/Plain. Why? 'Cause it feels perfect in the hand, it's the sharpest darn thing I've ever encountered, it's nice and stealthy (not too black or "tactical looking") and if I could only have one knife, I think this might be the one.

Of the large models, the Starmate is my favorite hands down.

Of the small ones, the Almite Walker.

But my absolute favorite is the Civilian, due to the originality of the design. I'm ordering a Matriarch tomorrow so I can actually carry one. I have both versions of the Civilian, but I can't bring myself to use them (they are just to interesting) I'm hoping the Zytel handle will enable me to break down and have one handy for what it was designed for. Meanwhile the Civilians will just lay there protecting my display case, as they do so well.

Hi,

This is a VERY difficult question so I have to go with more than one:

The Civilian - Aluminum - for all those good reasons everybody stated before.

My all time favorite is the Howard Viele : The best looking Spydie ever made.

My favourite varies from day to day, depending on what I'm doing or where I'm going.

Going to work it's the BF Native in my pocket. If I'm dressed up it's the plain edge Viele (I agree AG, it is the best looking Spydie ever made). If I'm going bushwalking then it's the Moran that finds its way into my pack.

However if the proverbial ever hits the fan and I need a knife on which my life (and those of my family) might depend, then it will be the Wegner I pick up, so I suppose that must be my all time favourite.

Take care,
Clay

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

So far, my new model Endura.I haven't found anything it's not useful for, and it's SHARP.(But...I have a Military 440 on order!)
