Figure 11 mile round trip, 25 MPG on surface steets, $4.20/gal local gasoline cost... $9.25 a week in gasoline plus wear on tires, so make it an even $10.00. That's $1.11 USD/liter or $1.15 CND/liter for the folks up north.

I usually drive about 6-7 miles to and from work, 5 days a week...about $80 to fill up every two weeks.

Needless to say, I haven't been doing much driving on the weekends. :thumbdn:

5 miles to and from my job. I walk. It wakes me up when i go, it relaxes me when i come back. In a first time it was to cure a wounded leg, 9 years ago.

dantzk.

I'm retired, but with today's fuel prices I would be spending around $90 per week, plus furnace oil for the house, but being home with the wood stove running non stop, I only used a fraction of the oil I'd be using otherwise. Probably about 1 full tank instead of less than 1/4 tank furnace per year oil now.

I'm using public transport and my ticket (for the city of Munich) costs me 60 Euros per month - so right now about $3 per day.
At all the other universities in Germany you can get a ticket for the whole semester for about 50 to 100 Euros (varies) and sometimes this is valid for the whole state, not just your city. So it's kinda expensive in Munich...

I walk across the street to work. I bought a new truck in 2006 for work, it just turned over to 13,000 miles.:) Handy tip, if you ever get a job that close, DO NOT let anyone know how close you live because they will come to you at night, on weekends and even when you're sick to check on things, get keys or any other thing they're too stooopid to figure out. I've had people knocking on my door at 11:30 at night when friends are over to come help for "just a minute" or "you're so close, I didn't think you'd mind". Sorry for the rant, back on the subject, my commute is free.

80 miles round trip assuming I don't stop anywhere. Average 28 MPG in a Subaru, drove past a gas station with $3.95 a gallon this morning. Not looking forward to this again, the closest mass transit will add another 1 1/2 to my daily commute if I have to take it.

Work is 64 miles rounds trip 5 days a week, then sometimes a little additional driving. Last fill up was $64, I fill up between every 5 to 6 days, so my cost is between $10.50 - $12.80. Depends on that additional driving.

Shoot, I saw it for $4.45 on my way home from work tonight. Good thing I just filled up... until I have to fill up again.

I drive a Dodge 4x4 with the Cummins diesel. It gets decent mileage, but I don't bother checking very close, because all my fuel is free.

One of the perks of my job.

My last assignment before I retired was right across town, on the other side of Central Park (in New York City). I usually caught a crosstown bus to work in really bad weather, but the walk was only a leisurely half hour normally. Coming home, I would really take my time, stop in the Park or wander around. For a while, I rode my bicycle, but it was too quick a trip, no fun.

The assignment before that was in midtown, took the bus to work and walked home three miles. The walk felt good after being stuck behind a desk all day.

Now my 2 jobs are about 15 minutes away in 2 directions. I drive most of the time. Sometimes if the weather is good & if I feel like it, I ride my bike. When I was living in Heidelberg Germany, I lived in a couple of different neighborhoods- some more accessible than others. In some I took the bus- others I walked or rode my bike. Hitchhiked home a lot. There was/is a spot by the Old Bridge that is a big hitchhiking spot. When I moved to Berlin & was looking for a job, I rode public transport (U-Bahn, S-Bahn. Bus) "Schwartz" ("schwartz= "black"= not paid, illegal) until I got a job that I was able to get to in 15 minutes by bike- even in the worst weather. In NYC, I rode the fucking subway from the ass-end of Queens into lower Manhattan & then into Midtown (after I got a different job). I can now ride my giant Worksman bike (w/ baskets) http://worksmancycles.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/cruisers.html to the grocery store & not lose a good parking place. I can walk to the local ginmills/restaurants if I want.

I found this graph. Some European countries are flirting with 10$ a gallon, and in Venezuela gas is cheaper than water.

I drive the 10 miles to and from the office. My car averages about 21.5 mpg; so at current prices, it takes about $3.60 each day.

I have to travel 15 miles to my work using my Porsche 944 from 1987. I spent arround €100.- a week ($148.-) on taxes and fuel. When the weather allows it I go with my mountainbike. The only downside is that when I'm traveling home its mostly during the night in a not so "good" neighbourhood. Thats why I carrying my Kershaw or Victorinox all the time.

My average monthly fuel bill is $400.00 I am in sales and do a fair amount of driving. My wifes monthly bill is about $600.00. So combined we spend on average $1000.00 per month on fuel for our automobiles. My wife is reimbursed for car exspenses but since fuel prices have been climbing she is using more of here mileage reimbursement towards the fuel bill and less on maintainance of the vehicle. I still find it sickening that we spend a grand a month on gas.
