You forgot the HOG poll answer:

I buy two with mags and two with standard, then figure it out later.

The reason I like mags, is because they have enough material so that I can sand in all the right spots to make them custom fit my hand.

I like mags on every knife I own. But for some strange reason I liked the regulars better on my HHFSH's when I still had those:confused:

mag's all the way for me. I have smaller hands and even the mags on my 07fshse feel very comfortable.

This Tequila ASH1 is .22 and this ProtoSH is .32 I don't have any answers but I hope this helps.

I've chosen magnums on all my knives lately. The only time I didn't go with magnums was on my HOGFSH because that was the first time ordering a knife of that size and thickness and there wasn't much to go on at the time. I just figured thin on thick would be better for me. It was nice with standards on it but after getting my HH with mags I sent my HOG back and had it refitted with Mags. It was that important to me.

That said, the ASH-1 handle design lends to a very comfortable grip even with thin slabs because of the "belly" in the bottom of the handle. I held a ASH-1 SE and it was VERY comfortable in hand and I found myself wishing for just a little more thickness in the handle but not necessarily palm swell. I think the design of the ASH (and especially its amazing thickness on the CG) is going to feel great in the hand regardless and am probably going to hedge and buy at least 1 with standard handles. VERY hard call.

And another thing... I had mags on my FAT SFNO. I thought I would do some shaping and after that went a little too far I ended up with a contour VERY close to the standard slabs. It was comfy but I sent that one back for fresh mags as well LOL. I guess I'm a freak for the mags.

Here you go (thanks to kelly)

Wow! This is a very useful poll. Congratulations Paddling_Man for the initiative ! When I first started the thread To MAG or, not to MAG? Here is the question, I never would have thought that so many would participate in it. This is post #29 here and on the other thread there are already 32 posts! Apparently, this is an issue that is of great importance to many INFI citizens :).

Well, I've only got mags on my Heavy Heart, and I love the way that feels. Not sure if I would like mags on anything thicker though... have to wait for my Special ASH-1 for that. So I've voted 2 for now.

Got a chubby paw and I really appreciate the feel of the mags.

The rules I use are as follows:

- Mags for chopping knives. That includes everything from a SFNO up.

- Regular handles for slicing or skinning knives. Precise control being paramount.

I'm chiming in on this again, as my standard slab CGFBM just came in. I think it's more comfortable in hand than my FFBM with mags. It may have something to do with the stock thickness combined with the additional weight, but the palm swells of the magged FFBM seem to dig into my hand a bit. I thought it was comfortable until I tried the standards, they seem better. Which one feels better during use remains to be seen, though.

Another thing I've noticed, OT, is that the CGFBM cuts air a lot better than the FFBM. It's a lot handier, lighter and quicker. I'm in love!

I'll take standard slabs every time, mags just aren't as fast in the hand for me. All that lumpiness gets in the way of positioning my blade. The only mags I find acceptable are the hand shaped ones on choppers, for that locked in feeling.
