Please help me with some "market research" ;)

Let me know what you would be most inclined to buy if it came up in the for sale section.

Vote multiple times:
Once for the material
Once for the pattern
Once for the colors
and once again whether you would like glow powder added.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.:) Please add specifics in the thread.

Thanks so much for helping!

Alright, I'm not even a maker (yet) and I've yet to handle enough micarta to have a preference on materials. But I see the "glow" option so I'll throw this idea out there for you. (And I'll keep it public, so others can tell me and you if I'm off my rocker)
I like the idea of glow material, but some of the knives I've seen that use it are too bright. Now, I've only seen pictures and I know they can be misleading. Perhaps in real life they don't "shine" quite so much.

1. Have you experimented with seeing just how little glow powder you can use and still get a distinctive, very faint glow?
2. Have you/would you experiment with doing a glow laminate? (Alternating layers of a thick non-glow and a thin glow.) I think that latter idea could have very cool results and solve the problem addressed in #1.

Yes, I am working towards a more subtle glow. That and more obnoxious ones :D

The blue and esp. the "daytime" colors are not too tacky. I have thought of, but not tried the layers you mention, but I will I'm sure. Another thing I plan on doing is making a fiberglass twist in say yellow or orange with a plain fiberglass component (10-20 per cent) with a daytime yellow or orange powder added. These colors are fairly mild and should add a nice stripe of glow.

Thanks everyone!

Good stuff, keep the votes coming, please.

Let me know what else might be wanted too.

I get requests for bookmatched scales, which I will offer soon. What else would you like to see?

Don't keep me guessing as to what you want:confused:

I should have some plain canvas and denim stuff in browns and greens soon.

Keep tuned!

I would have voted for the first one if it included basalt fiber, other than that, I like the multi-colour micarta best.

I don't see any place to put Dinosaur Bone, Leopard skin jasper, jade, tiger eye, petrified wood, Maury Mountain Moss Agate, Stone Canyon Jasper, Ocean Jasper, Confetti Jasper, Rhodonite, or any other stone....... My grinders (20 wheels) all run wet and my passion is the stone...... Soon...... very soon...... The shop is finished...... The first Dinosaur Bone scaled knife sold...... four finished stone scaled ones are sitting on the work bench and another 7 are in stages of work.....

Art in the stone is by god and I get to uncover, select and present it to those who share the passion.....

Each piece of work is better than the one before it and I will make and sell at least 20 before I start to share what I am doing here.....

personally...stabilized rare woods (CA buckeye, etc) or rare items would be cool, at a reasonable price. I like finding rare woods but theyre easy to get, its just theyre not stabilized

Those are all really nice but i think that he means layered and compressed materials.

Thanks for the input Kieth. The basalt is a great material, but you seem to be one of the few who are aware of it...Ive made some in the past, and I will again. BTW, I've got basalt and yellow paper stack available. Let me know if you would be interested.

Perhaps I'll get into stabilizing woods in the future, but for now, WSSI will stabilize just about anything you send them and their prices are reasonable.

Great looking stuff and keep up the good work, that stone is very cool. I cannot anticipate competing in the stone category anytime soon...

Tell me you can supply plain black linen "micarta" (not sure if that's a trade name or not?) and plain 'ivory' micarta in 1/2" thick slabs and I'll buy some ! (Despite the shipping costs to the UK) Even better if you can supply it 5/8" thick.

For all my searching the thickest I can find is 3/8". Not so clever when what I want to make is mortice tang handles for competiton cutting knives (and I have BIG hands so need BIG handles;) )

How about pieces 5/8" thick and 6 x 12" to keep postage simple ?

I absolutely love the day glo colors and the glow in the dark. The last set you put up here with. I liked all the glow in the dark colors (the orange was my favorite day color, but the glow color of that one was a bit off). Blue glow in the dark was really neat. I also like earth tones micarta. Natural canvas , ivory colored, browns and tans.

Which of the above materials takes a buff well?

They all should. The epoxy component (as long as I don't press it all out) tends to be what takes the shine. The manmade stuff carbon fiber and fiberglass seem to take the shime best.

Perfect, no problem. I'll send you an email later today or tomorrow to discuss. Thanks!
