Not really Allen. We can get more out of well thought out chess games than a drive by.

Imagine the satisfaction of finally saying "Check Mate"

Mad Dog Bashing. I don’t own any of the mans knives, his style just doesn’t interest me, but it has simply gotten to the point where it is downright embarrassing that it keeps going on, and tarnishes the whole site. It has led to the slew of incidents with makers insulting each other’s work and personalities we have seen lately.

Not long ago this type of thing was a rare occurrence, and usually brought to a swift halt. Now it seems to crop up everyday and go on far too long. This Forum is quickly becoming less of a home-away-from-home and more of an arena of ill will.

If you don’t like a thread or subject, feel free to ignore it. The same goes for your fellow members, be they Knifemakers or your average Joe off the Internet. If you don’t like the subjects that they post, don’t put your mouse on them and click. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, and not every post needs to be constructive. But let's try and cut down on the destructive ones before they completely ruin this place.

This is what bothers me....

Ah, never mind. I'd just get in trouble again from those that don't have a clue.

"If you don't like the subjects that they post, don't put your mouse on them and click", etc, etc, etc.

PLEASE READ MY POST OVER AGAIN!!!YES IM GETTING LOUD!!IF YOU CANT ANSWER IT DONT POST!!!!!!
Im trying to get an idea of what type of topics people enjoy reading and posting. Not how fast we can turn this into a "CATCH MY GRENADE CONTEST"
What do YOU enjoy reading? What turns YOU off in a topic?

Okay I think I got what you want.I love posts that say I'm the winner of the monthly knife drawing.Posts that turn me off usually contain below the belt attacks by Tim Herman.
I think that about covers it..

post that actually have information about knives that means something.
turn offs are......nm waste of time to try to explain.

God, it's just amazing how quickly this has turned ugly. But I'm going to ignore it and stick with the topic.

What I like: new knives news, new materials, new custom makers, people's experience with some knives I also own, new sharpening tools or techniques, and many more. In short I like everything except:

What I hate: bashing (of all kinds) and seniority posts (well no more). Just these two.

Umm .... I think my favorite topics are all the closed ones. Kind of like Jerry springer without the visuals.

Seriously though I guess my favorites are about different makers and the merits, or lack of, of their wares. I especially like it when a new maker or relativly unknown maker is introduced. Loved the pix of the Brazilian knives posted recently. Would LOVE more on makers outside the USA. What is the rest of the world making? Second I guess is knife materials and care and then just the fun ones like the "Slasher movie" thread or "what knife was that that ----- used in that movie".

grumble ..spelling %&$*# spell *^%
EDIT *^%^#%

I like knife reviews that include at least one line that is critical.
I hate "reviews" that only have one line like: "the best knife in the world " with no data to substantiate the claim.
I dislike the 15th (and subsequent) followup post that says "me too" without adding to the debate.
Not mad about cliches like "you da man".
I love industry information....like who makes which knives under contract and for whom.
Not keen on posts that make death and mayhem sound like a game.
Not impressed by sigs that are longer than most of it's owners messages.
Mainly, I detest those posts I make after the 5th beer and don't actually remember making.
And so on........

Hate thread topics that introduce new knives that I'm not aware of and will want! My 'wallet' ( chain wallet )

can't handle it anymore!

Actually, I do like these topics, it's my wife that doesn't!

hmmm.. personally, I like to read threads that concerns testing of knives, specially if it's about a knife which I've considered purchasing. It helps me a lot in my decision most of the time.

It may sound funny, but I trust the reviews here at BFC.
smile.gif
When they say it's good, then it must really be good.
smile.gif
Then I start shopping for one if it will fit my needs.

Threads that I hate? Basically those that are not in any way helpful to the betterment of the knife-loving community. It's very saddening.

When I first read this post I decided not to post a reply, then as I continued down the topic list I came to the thread about $100 training knives. Lo and behold I find His Name That Should Not Be Spoken popping up again. After that I decided to come back here and post after all.

Jay, I got your post the first time

I like posts that are relevant to the particular forum they're in. I like posts that give me accurate information, or hard to find information. I like posts where I feel I can contribute to the topic (yes, I am aware I have just opened myself).

What I don't like in a thread are attacks. If you don't like someone/something then it's your right to say something, particularly if someone asks your opinion. But I don't come to BF because of the the free soap-box offer. An exchange of conflicting opinions is one thing, a dirty war is something else. I also don't like really vulgar threads like the one posted a few days ago about Lynn Thompson's high school reunion. I'm NOT going to discuss the content, those who read the thread don't want to go there again and I don't want to encourage it.

I have to agree with James, I have noticed an increase in hostile or attention-grabbing threads and I wish it were no so.

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

My favorite posts are when someone new comes on the forums and asks a question. Then within a matter of minutes they get more information than they probably thought possible and can now make an informed buying decision. Now that is cool
smile.gif

I agree with the above posts as well. We need to get back to basics while still having fun. No fun at others expense please.

Now this is not to say that if you have a legitimate gripe you can not speak your mind. What I am saying is that I would expect that your gripe directly effects you.

I also realize a particular person of canine origin has become a favorite topic of late. It would perhaps be in our collective best interest to just ignore the chances we see to bring up the subject again. Please

My favorites are which makers are sleeping with who.....Naw wrong post. Seriously the ones I cringe at are uncalled for attacks against people here. Also the mad dog issue has been beat to death. Just when you think it has been put to bed some idiot either starts a new one or resurects an old one and "BAM" Deja Vu. Its like beating a dead horse. Who really cares anymore?
Bob

I like posts that offer a clearer understanding of what is being produced, Knife industry info, knives produced in other countries.I don't care for BASELESS attacks. Note, this is not the same thing as holding someone's feet to the fire for failures in manufacture, marketing, or customer service
