Poll: What folder would you bet your life on?

Your attacked by a Mutt and Jeff team of thugs bent on doing you serious if not fatal bodily harm. You have only a folder to save your bacon. Assume they are armed with a (one)screwdriver and fists and feet.
Which folder(s) would YOU bet your life on to not fail you in this time of need and why?
Yes I know a gun or a bowie or sword would be better, but, we've only got a folder for this one, OK?

Well, this seems like another spin on which lock is best, and threads of that ilk.

But, if I were going into a survival situation, one that could demand anything and would require a knife that wouldn't fail me, these are the folders that I would choose first:

1. Anything by Kit Carson (Model 4 or 16)

2. Anything by Rob Simonich (Custom Carnivore)

3. Sebenza by Chris Reeve

4. Axis Lock by Benchmade (I prefer the 710)

5. Rolling Lock by REKAT (Pioneer, Carnivore)

6. M2 AFCK by Benchmade

7. Spyderco Military (440V version)

I may have other worthy knives in my collection, but those would be my top choices (custom and factory) if my bacon was on the line.

Siiiiffuuuuu!!!

Sorry for being so loud, still highly stoked over the Sifu. This is definately the folder I would want in your scenario.

OK, you want something a quasi-normal person might be carrying on a daily basis? The Darrel Ralph Apogee. Big. Strong. Well designed. Utterly reliable.

Then, there is the REKAT/Crawford Carnivore, Benchmade 710, my favorite 5" custom Bali-Song, anything with a reliable lock, the bigger the better.

OK, for the sake of discussion, let us presume that I have already used and lost possession of the pATAK2 Mad Dog that I always carry on my belt.

The back up is a Kit Carson #18 folder (4" blade), with Ti scales, and a CPM 420V blade.

Back up to back up is same, except for Talonite (r) blade. Further back up is large Sebenza. This system works for me. Walt

The obvious answer is going to be whatever you carry on a daily basis. I mean essentially if your daily carry folder doesn't meet this requirement.....your probably carrying the wrong knife. In my case I carry a Benchmade 910 stryker and thats what I'd use.

Of my (limited) experience with folders it would have to be the AFCK. Decent blade size, good retention and in my opinion blade holes would be easier to open in a high stress situation.

BUT, I gotta say the Sifu looks like a winner too - great retention, stout lock and a BIG blade.

And to think people used to fight with "Texas Toothpick" style slip joints.

Out of what I have:

440V plain edge Military(super sonic deployment).
Back up would be my 975.

Otherwise I would go with the Sebenza and/or the Carnivour.

Blues,
Other factors are involved with lock strength being only one factor.
Accessability
Handle strength
Gripability
Blade shape and such are just a few.
(for example: I wouldn't want a Sheepsfoot blade in this scenario).

Best regards,

Actually I wouldn't even use the knife...if their is only one other person...without a gun or a larger knife...I'd just use what I have "at hand" such as my brain, hands, and feet.

I'd 'try' to take that screwdriver...shine it up real nice...turn that sum bitch sideways...and SHOVE IT STRAIGHT UP THAT GUY'S CANDY A$$!!!

OK, OK, if I had to use a Folding Knife

I'd go with either a MT Fully Serrated HAWK or Spyderco Civilian.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

1. Civillian, few knives scare the s@#t out of someone than that thing. Also, it's designed for slashing attacks which means I can hold it "ninja" style to allow me to use both my hands for attacks.

2. Commander, fast draw, intimidating looks, razor sharp and it cuts deep.

3. SOCOM, ergonomically designed for fighting-feels like it's a part of your hand.

However, my absolute favourite choice would be to just get the hell out. Heroes are just people who die before their time.

Spyderco Civilian.

While the "slash and run" philosophy of the Civilian becomes less viable with multiple attackers, I think it's still the best plan with one or even two. Make your hits as fast as possible, give them something to think about besides you, and "beat feet."

The Civilian is as fast as any folder out there. Its lock is solid and its handle is very secure. The blade is truly in a class by itself in terms of slashing ability. One hit from a Civie, anywhere, even on the defending arms of a target, is going to get their attention in a big way. It's not a knife intended for "fighting" and it doesn't concern itself with necessarily lethal stabs that must be targeted to the head/chest area. Just deploy, hit, (maybe hit some more), and haul a$$. I think that represents revolutionary thinking in terms of knife defense.

My beer is raised in salute of Defender. His logic is right on. In my case it would be either a REKAT Carnivour in the right hand or if the right was out of action a BM Stryker in the left. Or if I lost both an endura from the back pocket.

My shoes would be my first choice. In other words, run like hell.

In reality since I am the blessed owner of a CCW permit and the feet failed me it would a SP101 .357 stoked with CorBon.

But I can run pretty fast.

I completely agree with Steve Harvey. One look at the SIFU and any attackers would run and hide!

My Kasper Fighting Folder, which is ALWAYS in my front pocket. Of course, this is if I couldn't run away fast enough, and my dog isn't anywhere around. Heck, if my wife was with me, I'd let HER deal with the bad guy.

Vaquero Grande!!! IMO, I'm not too worried about the lock - I just want something big and scary!!! Besides, I've spine-whacked my VG at least a dozen times, and it's been rock-solid.

Don't have a Sifu yet, but I'm sure it's will be right up there.

I think if they had a screw driver and i pulled a MT VECTOR out......someone would be making poops!!!!!

I'd take Vampire Gerbil and his Leatherman Micra against any band of thugs.
