Note:

I was wondering how many out there would like to see some less expensive folding knives from CRK? I think I know the answer already, but the price point on CRK knives is a pretty constant point of discussion on this forum, so I thought I would give everyone a chance to have an opinion. I realize that CRK's are already a production knife, yet many of the so-called custom, semi custom, mid-tech type manufacturers seem to offer a 'budget line' in some form. I am thinking the Todd Begg Bodega "field grade" knives, the Rick Hinderer designs by Zero Tolerance, the Southard's and Wilkin's made by Spyderco etc.

My Question: If CRK found a way to make a less expensive line (sharing the same great design philosophies), either by out-sourcing production, or using cheaper materials and lesser tolerances, would you be interested in buying these knives?

Some important notes regarding this poll:

- The goal of this poll is NOT to determine if you think the existing CRK line-up is over-priced.
- The goal of this poll is NOT to open a discussion about the loss of American jobs, overseas manufacturing vs domestic etc (that's it's own discussion).

I would not want to buy them if I am sacrificing materials or tolerances as that is the whole reason most people buy CRK in the first place. If the quality of the knife would go down then I do not see a point in making such a line as there are many knives that would already fulfill that role by many of the other companies.

Good points

Well said!
I feel the same way.

Realize there's a spelling goof-up in the options...sorry about that. I can't edit the poll questions (maybe the moderator can?). Hopefully it's not confusing anyone. Replace "or" with "to" in the second question.

Should read: No! I would like CRK production TO remain in-house at high levels of quality, regardless of price.

CRK is successful what they do for a reason. They have the capability to make whatever quality they want...so they stick to the best.

I voted yes... But the more I think about it, I think the high quality of the knives should remain. So I instead say no

Cheap knives are already easy to come by. It is the well built, high quality knife that is harder to find. :)

No. People would still expect CRK quality for CRKT prices. Can't be done!

Kind regards,

Jos

No way! They built the rep they have for a reason, if I want a cheaper knife I will look at other companies. I want to know that my CRK knives are built to the highest standards

What about the Fantoni colab? That was a nice folder at about half the price of the Sebenza.

I'm all for something new from CRK.
(I just bought a TiLock so I'm not apposed to the high end stuff, I just want something different.)

I'd say no. I bought CRK because of it's quality and design. Producing the budget knives will sacrifice the quality (materials, tolerances etc.) and so it's no longer a CRK Knives.

No offense but that would quite possibly be the worst thing possible for CRK.

From a materials / craftsmanship perspective, you can't sacrifice if your entire brand is built on quality and superior CS.

From a marketing perspective, a big part of the reason these sell so well is the exclusivity. You take that away and you may as well stick a BM / Spyderco / Kershaw (all good knives btw) logo on the knife and call it a day. That mid-range market is saturated and there's no reason to play there. Reducing the price will take the brand with it.

If anything, CRK should consider making improvements (not sure what but I don't run the company) and *raising* prices.

That would be a huge....No Way !!!:p

They've tried that before, and won't go down that road again. Chris didn't allow any to be sold, but a few leaked out.
Not my image of the CRKT Sebenza.

Nope!!! I feel that with the rising cost of custom makers knives that are of no higher quality of a CRK, that CRK's are actually very affordable. Iv'e had $2,000 customs that didm;t have better tolerances, fit and finish of my $350 Sebenza.

If you buy quality, there shouldn't be an issue!

Did I just say that?...:D
