I'd like to see more expensive CRK's!! Customs by the man himself!! Haha
But to the OP question... absolutely not.

CRK's aren't expensive to begin with. Customs are expensive and most don't hold a candle to the quality of my Umnumzaan.

You will get more people here voting yes to Obama's third term then wanting CRK to make budget knives.

If you want a budget CRK buy a Alias 1, TR-3 or many other great budget knives.
Just my .02!

Being a very avid talk radio listener (think Rush Limbaugh) I laughed very loudly upsetting my wife, rocking our daughter to sleep, at the third term comment :D

Considering the MSRP's sky rocketing with other production companies CRK's are inexpensive for what you get in materials and quality.

A Chris Reeve knife from any place other than Chris Reeve shop would not be a Chris Reeve knife! From everything I have seen, heard or read Chris Reeve is only interested in making the best knife he can. I can not imagin him thinking budget may be a way to go. And to answer the question NO!

Again, I am not trying to promote this idea, just giving people a chance to express opinions. As much as I hope you are right about CRK today, clearly Chris Reeve was interested at one point in time of having a budget line produced (please Google CRKT Sebenza, and you will find a contradiction to your statement). Although the resulting product of the collaboration was not released, and was sub-standard, CRK did pursue the deal with CRKT to produce those black plastic Sebenzas. So as much as we would all like to think its a situation of 'quality at all costs' , CRK did attempt to put some inexpensive out-sourced knives into the hands of the public at one time, though it didn't work out.

Don't get me wrong, I truly love my CRK knives, and respect very much the great minds that created them, but I am not going to delude myself either based on what has already happened once before. I think there is a very small, but reasonable chance, CRK will court someone to do another budget line again in the future, maybe in collaboration with a better maker. I don't think CRKs are particularily pricey, its more a case of them wanting to meet the demand, like Hinderer does with ZT.

No worries kidcongo, before I made the plunge and finally spent the cash on a Sebenza I was part of the crowd trying to find the "poor mans Sebenza" and an officially licensed CRK budget knife would have been awesome at the time. I could list a half dozen "wannabe" Sebenza's that I tried before finally getting the real thing.

Statistics... I'm not convinced, that 100% of those voting for a budget line mean it.
Is it possible, that at least one likes to spread a little doubt?

I agree, there are people that just don't like CRK's and will vote for a budget line to just make waves. I also believe that if you have never owned one then it's hard to make a educated vote. If you don't know what they are like then how can you say they need to be changed.
Also don't the Chinese already copy the CRK line up with inferior materials and inferior tolerances. I am not promoting you buy a Chinese knockoff but they do exist.

Kidcongo I never thought you were promoting the budget line in anyway. And I have known about the CRKT knives for a while. I like this thread. But my thought is Mr. Reeve tryed it once and it was a failure. "Once bitten twice shy". I would think he would think long and hard before doing that again. Again thanks for the pole.

Not just no, but HELL no. It may be true that Mr. Reeve thought about it at one time and I am sure his experience into the noted abortion of a knife changed his mind permanently. It has taken him 25 years to build the reputation he has now. Why would he want to risk that, again? Like others have said the market is totally saturated with the more affordable type knives. Why bother?

Actually I believe Mr Reeve has done a collaboration with Spyderco called the Sage 2 ? I didn't vote in this pole btw. :)

I think that is just Spyderco paying homage to CRK, not really a collab.

Although, if any company was going to be given a shot, it would be Spyderco. Just need to figure out the whole hole situation.

Correct, the Sage series is not a collaboration series.

I would like to see a separate line of CRK knives like Bird/Spyderco, Kershaw/ZT. It could be the gateway for someone to try the brand out and maybe move on to the Main line up. It would be well differentiated like the examples I mentioned.

The sage series is 4 knives each with a different lock style. It's just a tip of the hat to the four knife makers who designed each lock. Sage 2 is a great blade!

I've often wondered if CRK has a patent on his frame lock ?

I know he created it and would imagine he did have the patent. I think they have a time limit so I'm not sure about now. After all he designed it 25 years ago. It's still my favorite lock.

Not interested. I can't afford one right now, but enough people make sebenza clones (not the fakes, just similar designs, you know) that if I wanted a "budget" crk I could get one. It's the tolerances that matter here.

No. I already have enough "budget" brand knives. I will stick to the rock solid product coming from CRK today.
