Poll: Your Top Five Brands

My list is based on my experience with knives, not brand reputation, and since my knife budget is relatively low, I don't have much, if any, experience with some of the more popular brands. Furthermore, I've only been "doing a knife thing" for just over a year, so my experience is quite limited in terms of time. Here's my list.

1. Rough Rider. I've had at least 14 Rough Riders in the past year, and I've been pleased with each one. Best quality/cost ratio I've experienced.

2. Victorinox. Very consistent quality. Easy to find, new and used. Lots of interesting variations; alox is addictive.

3. Opinel. Inexpensive, elegantly simple, just plain fun to mess with. Patina experiments, tune-ups, good times.

4. Imperial. An old Imperial got me reinterested in knives. A big factor of my "knife life" is nostalgia, and Imperials remind me of the kinds of knives people around me had when I was a lad. I have an Imperial toothpick that reminds me of my grandpa's knife.

5. Buck. I have a couple Chinese Bucks that I bought a year ago as my initial "investment" in knives. They're very good knives, and I'd like to pick up some of the classic American Buck models.
