Hi everyone,

So it seems to me as if a few people are experiencing issues with their Zero Tolerance 056X series knives. I myself, received a ZT 0561 with a defect. I emailed ZT and they very quickly got back to me with helpful information. However, I have decided to exchange it for a new one from the vendor I bought it from. I have been treated very well so far so I am not complaining. I am simply curious to see how many people actually have an issue with theirs. My friend also purchased a 561 and the fit and finish on his is outstanding, so was the F&F of both a 561 and a 560, which I had the opportunity to handle at a local gun show. Their was, and still is, a lot of fantastic talk about these knives on the forums, so I think when people receive one which is not "perfect" they start a thread on it (Like me :D). I am just curious to get a rough idea of the real situation.

First off I'm not keen on the poll.

To date there have been less than 40 of 056X's returned for warranty. Around 2000 produced.

That help understanding the real situation?

Less than 40, out of 2000 produced.....seems as though the wording in the opening post should read as 'VERY few people that are experiencing issues with their Zero Tolerance 056X series knives'....

It seems to me that Thomas has answered your question.....:D

The ZT 0560 is the nicest/feature rich/well made knife for the money I've EVER purchased and like most here I've purchased many...some would say too many. I have no doubt that if 2000 were produced that a few may not have been "perfect" but since ZT stands behind their product so well why not contact them directly and allow them to handle it before posting that your knife isn't perfect? A lot of times the issues I'm reading about (I don't know about the problem the OP is having) would go away if the buyer just used the knife for a couple weeks so that they could get assumed to it...like any other tool.

I waited nearly a year for the 0560/0561 to be released and even after all that waiting the knife more than lived up to my expectations and actually has me second guessing a few of my more expensive folder purchases (those over $400). I'm surprised that even after ZT did such an incredible job on this project that they still have to keep saying that we will take care of you IF your knife isn't "perfect"...wish I could get that kind of support on my car/motorcycle and all of my electronics.

To the OP, I hope your situation is taken care of to your satisfaction, I'm not so much speaking to your issue as I don't know what that is but more to buyers expecting perfection even thought each of us may well have a slightly different view as to what the perfect setup or perfection is.

Best of luck!

I'll additionally add that half of those returned were perfect, well except for that "heavy" detent. :)

One of mine has a small issue with being a bit sticky at times but then again its no worse then what I've experienced with other makers (e.g. CRK/Spyderco/etc.) Definitely not worth sending it back for warranty in my case.

Ya'll can send me your "faulty" ZT56X knives. :D

I've been wanting to put hands on one for a while but funds just won't permit me to buy any new toys. As soon as I land a contract the ZT56X will be my first purchase.

Only thing that keeps mine from being perfect is the tip grind is uneven. It's still sharp and that can be fixed easily enough, so I'm happy with the knife.

What are trying to achieve with this post, I have been completely satisfied with both my 0560 and 0561 knives. ZT designed and produced a knife with all the specs that were to be achieved. If a person has an individual problem I know customer service will rectify the situation. Your poll looks like one of those class action deals you are trying to start.

I don't have one yet,but if the 560/61's are as good as or better than the 0200 and 0400 I do have She will be one H*** of a knife.

Even after the year long wait, the 0560 exceeded my expextations, and I am a VERY picky customer. I liked it so much, I bought another one, sight unseen like the first. Again, it is perfect. No issues whatsoever.

It is very seldom that a manufacturer of anything exceeds my expectations due to the incredibly short sighted mindset of today's consumer who prefer lowest price at all cost, forcing companies to have the same perspective. Combine this with a focus on monthy/quarterly earnings, and you often get CRAP. Not so with KAI.

I think you have to clearly define what an issue is for an accurate poll.

I personally like threads like this much more than many others - threads that ask the same question which has been asked repeatedly the past couple years or ones asking what color of handle to get among others.

Ideally there would be similar threads/polls for many of the popular and often recommended models. How much do people learn if there are only posts and threads with pats on the back and thumbs up.

The sticky lock will eventually disappear when broken in.
Mine may be a lil off center, but doesn't affect anything.
I love it.

I've had a 560 and 561. Never had an issue with either. One of my favorite folders and the best bang for your buck out there IMO. Sticky lock at first but pencil led fixed that right up. The KVT is flawless!

Why put quotes around "heavy"?

My problem with this poll is that it is not clear to me what qualifies as an issue. Is it considered to be an issue if the knife requires way too much effort to overcome the detent?

BTW, just because only 40 have been returned does NOT mean that only 40 had issues (whatever that means). Some folks (like me) get very busy and find that packing up stuff and schlepping with it to the PO is a PITA and so we don't do it and just put up with the issue(s) instead.

There's just no pleasing some people. They just have to complain about something. Even my blem Kershaws and ZTs are "perfect", especially for "blems".

My 0561 is perfect, BTW.

I voted option 5 "Complain and ask for a free knife"

How about a "heavy" detent 0560 Thomas? :D :p
