Poly over Danish Oil

I'm working on a hiking stick, and at first I figured I wanted a nice oiled finish, so I rubbed in a few coats of Danish Oil. Now I'm toying with giving it a wipe on poly finish instead. Any problems with applying poly over an oil finish?

Or alternate question, can I get a sort of lacquered finish by applying Danish Oil a bunch of times?

I have done it, but made sure to use Poly by the same co. - Watco makes a poly wipe on. You have to wait for the Danish oil to cure - more than 3 days.
Don't try to get too thick a coat with the poly wipe on - use a thin coat and rely on multiple coats if you want a buildup and thicker finish.

I had problems with trying to get a thick coat on a single application. Use the Watco poly and you should be fine.
