I never grabbed any CS models in 3V . Always meant to , but never did . :(

:poop: Recent indications that CS may be taking the low road for steel , at least in the near term , got me thinking about getting a model with this tough great steel , before it's too late .

Thinking about an impractical big/long one . Maybe a Warcraft or Nightfall Tanto with long blade .

Lots of bad reviews on the Warcraft F&F , but still might try one . Might work better as big heavy machete ? So I might get some actual use out of it .

A long tanto would probably be more just another martial toy . Not that there's anything wrong with that . :D

This is definitely not really anything I need for any practical reason , of course . :p

I already got plenty of big choppers and fixed blade fighting knives .

But I got nada in 3V or similar . Closest I have is a Drop Forged Bowie in 52100 .

Thoughts / suggestions / testimonials welcome ! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I suggest one of the knives with Kraton handles and a tsuba, like the various tantos and the Tai Pan. They are as comfortable and well-handling as they are beautiful. These are the heart and soul of Cold Steel. I remember them being advertised in Soldier of Fortune magazine in the 80's. Now the US is an embarrassment and I couldn't imagine why a young man would join the Marines today. But you can still get a great tanto from Cold Steel, at least for now. I just bought a San Mai Tai Pan and I love it. I'm relieved it's hollow-ground, they keep changing blades to flat ground.

The Warcraft Tantos are very tough, well made knives. I have all three sizes and my favorite is the medium. At the present time they appear to be either sold out or disontinued. The stonewash medium has been listed for awhile but has never been in stock available for purchase. Fit and finish was flawless on all the samples I have seen.

Nightfall Tantos and Taipan are all excellent as well. I own all but the 6" Tanto and have had no complaints. Very happy with these knives. Oddly the new 3V satin finished Taipan costs almost double what the DLC model sold for before it went extinct.

Yeah , the selection at any reasonable price seems very limited .

I may have waited a bit too long .
It was the last year or so that Cold Steel adopted MAP pricing and prices shot up dramatically! But there are still bargains to be had from time to time.

Blade Hdq has several ones in 3V, including Warcrafts, Nightfalls, also Amazon and others too. Had a Warcraft and didn't realize how much I liked it until after the trade. Lyn said he was bringing out new models("I absolutely love 3V as a steel and I hope to bring out three more knives made of this wonderful steel in the near future but they are going to be expensive")

Were I in your position, I would get one of the tantos from the Nightfall series. They are iconic knives that would complement any Cold Steel collection nicely. A big Magnum Tanto might not be the most practical knife, but that doesn't sound like a primary criterion for you. However, were you to order some tatami mats with it, you could have a blast in your backyard, lol.

:) In my dreams : a two hand waki from CS in 3V !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

;) Yeah , I do redneck type backyard martial cutting practice quite a lot . :p

I have a 9260 spring steel katana , direct from China , I use as a weed wacker . Works fine and great fun ! :D

Both me and E EatingSarma have Warcraft Tanto. I'm keeping mine till my Recon Tanto breaks, while he did use his.

I only tested mine out, excellent chopper, extremley comfortable handle, it's a joy to use.
As far as I know he's satisfied with his one too.

Magnum Warcraft is discontinued BTW. I think soon other 2 might bite the dust too.

Just get a Trailmaster or Recon Scout in 3v.....OH! I must be dreaming again. These two knives really should be made out of the best steel possible Imho. Well good luck on your hunt Doc.

WOW, dat MAP, though! A 7.5" Warcraft ~$190, and a 7.5" Nightfall ~$290.

I have found that patience usually works out. Took me over 2 years to find a Safekeeper I for the price and condition. If you are in a hurry then you pay the price, except for those crazy/lucky finds sometimes.

:) Seriously thinking of just buying this 12" blade , San Mai Magnum Tanto XII .

It's not 3V , but it's actually available and looks to be tough enough for my use .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I can get one for ~$180, right now .

I'm with you. I know 3V is amazing, but San Mai is a classic steel for these blades. In my opinion, it's plenty tough enough, and it looks great too.

I say go for it, and have a blast butchering vines and pool noodles like a samurai!

It really is a crazy knife(short sword), but I love'em, I do carry my IX more though but the look on the people's face is priceless when I unlimber the XII.

:) I just now grabbed a deal on a Warcraft Tanto 13TL , 7.5" blade in 3V for a good discount due to damaged box . ~$133 plus tax , delivered .

I wanted a longer blade , but at least this is 3V and I've never owned any of the Warcraft series or any 3V blade .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Probably more practical to carry than a longer blade , so I might get more actual use from it .

I'm a slightly stoked up to try it out ! :p
