Poor lockup

The whole classification of custom / mid tech / production / mass production etc. is all BS. It's crap often put out by custom knife collectors to somehow differentiate the knives they like from other knives. They'll spend endless hours debating, classifying, making bylaws for, to try and figure it out. These types who insist on these classifications are the types to believe in the mystical soul or blood of the maker kind of stuff.

If you are rational, there are only two things to consider in a knife: 1) quality 2) aesthetics. That's it, end of story.

I respectfully disagree

The custom maker is just as important when people are buying knives. I buy the maker, and then I buy the knife.

Look at the marketplace and you will know that some people just do not respect Brad Duncan. Granted his knives are awesome and very appealing in aesthetics and of good quality, but why is it then people have a hard time selling his knives. Many people have even stated they wouldn't even take one of his knives for free. Say what you will, but a knife is much more than a knife to many people.

just my 2 cents your welcome to disagree

I agree, it was my assumption we were not talking about thieves, liars and etc. Clearly that's a no go.

I was under the assumption you meant everyone.

I still regard Bad Duncan :p as a custom maker, but really should look away from that since he is wronged so many people (thief and liar sound just about right).

well, i sent out my knife with a list of refurbishing and upgrades i want done to the knife. hopefully crk can do magic to this baby. it is soooo sad though that i am ending up spending more money (in the long run) than i could have if i just bought a new one outright.

oh well, live and learn.

i just found out that my knife is done. hopefully i will receive it soon. i will take new pics of the finished product.

i ordered something special too. it will take 9-12 months for that to come in though. :(

well, i got the knife back today. crk is unbelievable.

-they fixed the lockup issue
-resharpened the blade
-retumbled the blade
-installed double thumb lugs
-installed spacer for pocket clip delete
-reattached new lanyard(old one was still in box)
-attached all new screws(sent back old ones for me)
-beadblasted backside of knife(no clip marks)
-gave me all the old screws and hardware
-sent me some flourinated grease
-sent me a new slip sheath
-added silver spacer and removed blue one.

all for very little money. i only asked for 7 of the above to be done. they even knew that i was not the original owner of the knife. GREAT customer service!

i am very, very happy.

one other thing i just noticed they did, they also shaved down the back of the lockbar at an angle so i can use the back of the thumb stud. woohoo.

Regardless of classification that lock up makes me wonder if someone didn't take it apart and put it back together wrong. Little late I know but it appears to me to be something you should have examined by making sure the washers are on the correct sides, and over the bushing and not around it. I suspect looking at it that a washer is partially blocking lock travel but of course its just a guess. Still that is not typical of a Reeve knife.

in retrospect, i think someone may have changed the blade in my knife before i bought it. from looking at pics online, it looks like the 'web sight' knife is supposed to have a polished blade. the one that came with my knife was a tumbled blade.

either way, crk fixed the issue for me. sure, i paid more for the knife (with repairs and extras) than it is worth, but that is ok. i will just have to start asking for better pics when i buy or trade here.
