Forum Military #11

Thank you Tique,
Just wanted folks to know I wasn't making this all up! :-)
No, the knife is NOT for sale! It ain't perfect, but it's my baby. Yes I would rather it really looked good, but still, it's different and I guess I'm getting used to it! :-) In fact, it's beginning to take on it's own personality!

My Forum Military (#39) arrived yesterday. I was going to pass on getting one because money is a bit tight at the moment but, boy oh boy, am I ever glad I changed my mind. This is such a nice knife. My inlayed "spyder" (don't know how anyone could suggest it looks like a sticker
confused.gif
) reflects light from all directions and almost looks like a holograph (I think someone else said that
smile.gif
). I think this is a much better use of the inlay technique than the full scale inlay on the G10 Native which left me singularly unimpressed. The small inlay dresses the knife up without detracting from its usefulness (yes I'm going to use mine) and the engraving is similarly low key (unlike the BF Native).

A bit of history for those who don't hang out on Spyderco's own forum. This knife arose out of a thread I started not long after the forum started. My original suggestion was for a Centofante Jr with pearl scales as a special knife for the new forum. The suggestion for a Military with "bug" inlay came from Spyderco's production manager and was enthusiastically embraced by the forumites. I think that the Military was chosen because it is Spyderco's current "flagship". The result is a distinctive knife either as a user or collectable.

Sorry, Clay. I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade. I even admitted that I was speaking strictly from pictures. It just doesn't "turn my crank" as far as limited editions go. Heck, I bought a limited edition knife too (rhymes with "Pifu"
wink.gif
) which I'm sure isn't everyone's cup-o-tea either.

If you really like your knife -- which is what really counts -- I'm happy for you.

Frankly, I'm sure it's a good knife regardless of cosmetic looks. It is, afterall, a Spyderco.

No worries Full Tang, it's actually raining cats and dogs at the moment but there's no parade
biggrin.gif
. I guess there's always a problem trying to judge a knife from pictures. I thought the inlayed Native looked great in the scans but was underwhelmed when I saw it in the flesh whereas I think the Military looks much better than it did in the scan. Makes it very difficult when you are geographically challenged and all your knives are bought off the net.
