Pop-ups from forum advertisers?

I get various pages that pop up while I'm on this forum, things like "virus scan is running" or "update your Macafee" (I don't have Macafee). I don't get this kind of thing from any other forum or website I visit. I know they are scams so I close them and go on but some forum members might be caught by them.

Spark Spark might need to check the ad service that he uses.

Yeah we don't allow popup ads in our network AT ALL. I will reach out and see what's up

Does nobody else get pop-ups? Or maybe I should say page redirects. I don't get this on any other site I visit.
Right after I came to the site tonight I got directd to a page offering me an AT&T promotion, then a page saying I won a Walmart gift card, then another page saying I won an Amazon gift card, then a page for a Visa gift card. I finally have to give up, close the browser and start all over.

Most browsers have an option to block pop-ups. I use Brave, which does. Firefox also has that option. Which browser do you use?

I use Firefox, I run an adblocker and I have popups turned off too. I don't know if what I have would be considered a popup, it's as if suddenly the browser shifts to another webpage. I've seen where a website can convince you to allow push notifications and then that will load bogus webpages trying to scam you. As far as I can tell I haven't allowed anybody to do that on my browser. I posted today because I was just curious if other users were getting these kind of things or if it is just me.

I logged in using Firefox and a registered user account which I maintain for testing purposes. The Firefox popup blocker option was not activated.

I got ads, but no popups.

When I logged in, I took time to say no to all the cookie types that somebody or other wants to hand out. Have you tried that?

last year, I got some of the redirects. Always to a site that was scanning for malware.
I always closed out and started over. it was very intermittent, and only here on BF. It's been a while since I've had it happen, before Christmas I would say.

I've mostly been posting on the Buck Forum and so far this has only happened on the Buck Forum not any other Bladeforum area or any other location that I visit on the Internet.

I've been getting a scam popup that claims to be from my Internet provider which is Spectrum.

I called them and they say it's a scam.

It wants me to answer some questions on a survey and if I do I will qualify for prizes.

I have to sign out of the forum to get rid of it and when I sign back in it will usually pop up again in a few minutes.

Just happened again. Ref post #9 above.

Same exact scam claiming to be Spectrum.

Printscreen key does not work to make a copy or I'd show it to you.

I use Firefox too. No adblockers etc. No pop ups etc. here. There are banner ads but nothing else.

FWIW, clicking on the link from my laptop running Windows 10:
edit: my Internet provider is Frontier

I was getting those as well last Nov and Dec when my membership ran out. I'm on Chrome and installed an adblocker as it rendered bladeforums unusable for me. It was sporadically redirecting me to the fake page and away from the bladeforums thread I was trying to get to.

I never paid much attention to the content as I closed the window as fast as I could and just started over. I ran several virus and malware scans on my computer thinking it may be my device.

It's only ever happened to me on Bladeforums on only on my computer. It has not happened while browsing the forum from a mobile device. Adblock fixed the problem for me so I never reported it.

If you at any point allowed notifications for a site claiming to be Blade Forums, you will continue to get those pop-ups. Technically, they are not ads, but to the enduser they seem the same. Many scams run through notifications. Either turn them all off in Chrome, or manually block (don't delete, block only or they can come back) the ones you don't want. We take care of this at least once a month for customers.
