Pop-ups from forum advertisers?

If you like how Chrome functions, but want more security and control over content, I would suggest switching to Brave. Same base code, but much improved security and quality of life improvements.

If you at any point allowed notifications for a site claiming to be Blade Forums, you will continue to get those pop-ups. Technically, they are not ads, but to the enduser they seem the same. Many scams run through notifications. Either turn them all off in Chrome, or manually block (don't delete, block only or they can come back) the ones you don't want. We take care of this at least once a month for customers.

Google's page on notifications: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3220216
trying this.

got one of the re-directs today while browsing again

Is anybody working on solving this problem?

It keeps happening.
I logged in on Firefox as a registered user without a popup blocker and I did not see any popups. I did refuse all cookies when logging in. So this does not appear to be a general problem. There appears something about your system.

Try logging out of the site, then clear your browser cookies and close the browser. Then log in and refuse all cookies when given the option.

Thanks.

However, if I clear all cookies it will cause me problems when using other sites.

I really should not have to clear all cookies.

Is this because Blade Forums is a really old platform and far from state of the art?

I only have this problem when on Blade Forums.

Does nobody else get pop-ups? Or maybe I should say page redirects. I don't get this on any other site I visit.
Right after I came to the site tonight I got directd to a page offering me an AT&T promotion, then a page saying I won a Walmart gift card, then another page saying I won an Amazon gift card, then a page for a Visa gift card. I finally have to give up, close the browser and start all over.
No. None.

DuckDuckGo

Try another browser, Edge is built in to Windows and Safari is built in to MacOS. See if you get a pop up when you go to Blade Forums.

When I see stuff like this these days, it always notifications or bad extensions in Chrome. Firefox can have bad extensions as well. Turn them all off and try the site again.

I just checked using Firefox with everything turned off, so no Adblocking, no tracking protection, no pop up blocker. There were no popups or redirects. There is something on your computer you need to track down and remove. Some things that may present themselves as search aids, or deal finders, or coupon finders can do this.

I am using Firefox but it has no allowed notifications and no extensions.
I don't find anything in my startup that looks suspicious.
I regularly visit 5 different forums, it seemed suspicious that I only see the "ads" on BF.
I will keep searching.

What browser do you recommend?

No. BF is using the latest version of the Xenforo software.
Cookies can get corrupted. Corrupted cookies can cause issues. Been known to happen.

If you don't want to clear out your cookies
>Log out of BF. Close the browser. Then open the browser and log in to BF. You should have an option to opt out of cookies. Use that option. It may or may not work since there will already be cookies on your device.

>If that does not work, try enabling the popup blocker in your browser.

Like I said, I cruised the site the other night using Firefox logged in as a registered member with no blockers and no cookies enabled. So this is not endemic across all users. That means it is unlikely to be a system issue. If it were a system issue, it should have affected me, and it did not.

Ok, thanks.

I'm using Chrome.

I'll have to try another browser.

I seldom use Chrome. It reports everything home to the mother ship and wants to save the entire history of the world on my device. I normally use Brave. But Chrome does offer popup blockers.

Malwarebytes offers a free version that I recommend for scanning your system for malware and unwanted programs. It's worth the download and the few minutes it takes to install and scan your system. If you like it enough then buy it, if not just uninstall when you are done. They are OK with you using it in this manner.

Chrome has the same options.
Well, it ain't easy for an old guy.........but I fought my way all the way through all the Chrome settings and finally managed to find pop-ups and actually block BladeForums from giving me pop-ups.

That was early yesterday and it hasn't popped up at me since.

Of course I know it wasn't FROM BladeForums, but it was coming THROUGH BladeForums, so this may have been the solution.

Or maybe my invisible anti-virus program got around to eliminating it.

Or maybe the Universe took pity on me and stepped in.

Or maybe it will come back later today.
