Popped my CRK cherry. Hate the thumb stud.

Yeah, once I was told to press my thumb against the blade, between the stud and the frame cutout, and make sure my nail contacts the stud, I have had no issues. And since I have been flipping it non stop for the last 48 hours, it flies out smooth as butter. I want to thank all of you for your advice and insights. The CRK section here on BF is just full of a bunch of awesome folks, and I appreciate you taking the time to welcome and indoctrinate me.

Enjoy it! And don't be too concerned about treating it like a faberge egg, it's tough as hell!

;)On "stubborn" Sebs I've turned my own thumb stud and installed it in the place of the factory one. Then use it a while till it breaks in and replace that one with the factory one again.
There is always another way.

Any pics of the custom one?

I just recently got my first Sebenza also (small 21) and, while I love everything else about the knife, I absolutely hate the thumb stud. It's just awkward and uncomfortable. Perhaps if I hadn't already experienced better designs, I might not mind it, but it just feels wrong. It's really the only stud design I've ever felt that way about. Given that the knife is otherwise excellent, I'll learn to deal with it, but I suspect I'll never like the stud.

The newer stud is not my favorite by a long shot; but it's an individual preference not a disparagement of the design. The dome on the stud has always given me trouble on the smalls. Has more to do with hand size, angle of engagement etc. Mayo-ized Sebenzas are super easy to open in comparison. Sure wish Tom still did the mods...
