what is the name of the model that is like an oval ring that you hold on to?

I think that's called a holy tearer. If I understand correctly it was meant to be used as a kind of D guard on the early model steel hearts, kind of like a WWI trench knife with the cast knuckle handle, except this can be removed and used by itself. I think someone posted a closeup of one here not too long ago.

edited to add... here's the thread I was thinking of, which has a lot better closeup of it. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=335347

Largarto be right... They were made in D2 and Very cool for cuttin' pizzas.

They are very cool indeed. I have one I carry frequently and it is a sweet piece

:D:D

pretty cool, thanks lagarto. now i can see the spot on the close up for the d guard use, but it is hard to tell in the collection photo, are there screws that are holding two pieces together to make the oval?

Exactly. To secure it to the SH1, you need a little longer screw than is provided to make the Holy Tearer on it's own. I had it one my SH1 at one time, but I am not sure what I did witht he pic or the srews. :D I have been meaning to get to the farm and home to get another set of SS screws.

Doorkicker -- I just sent you an email with a pic of Skunk's SHS1 w/ D guard.
OF course, it's the same one found in the link that Porkgunner posted. D'oh!
I really should read the whole thread before sending pics.

They feel pretty cool bolted on there let me tell you what. :D You kind of feel like a character out of the Road Warrior movie or something. :D
