A 911 Turbo can make 0-60 in 3.9...
The Ariel Atom does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, and 0-100 in 6 seconds. 0-100-0 is 10.88 seconds! It can't match the Porsche or motorcycles for top speed though.

I freakin' love these, and would have bought one if there was any such thing as a used Atom.

That's a sweet little car!

I was thinking of building a small car like that, but building it as a box-section aluminum chassis, not unlike the technology used in motorcycles today. Same thing, though --- exposed frame, minimal bodywork. I was thinking of a mid-engine, small aluminum V-8, though.

Geez, I need another project like a hole in the head!

I think they do sell a kit version.

I'm not much of a mechanic. :(

They're actually bargain-priced considering the performance (see below), but still out of my price range. I did find an '02 Honda S2000 (redline at 9,000 rpm) that fit my "toy" budget perfectly. :) And I didn't have to put it together myself.

I don't know how much of a bargain it is when you consider the plastic surgery you would need after driving it around alot. DId you se that guys skin???

It does however look like a blast to drive on a track.

Related to the original post, I've seen race video of a heavily modified Dodge Viper vs. a stock Hayabusa vs. a modified Hayabusa. The poor Viper could generally keep up with the stock 'Busa, but the Viper was completely spanked by the modified motorcycle. Wish I could find a link, it was a great set of runs on a supposedly "closed" highway in Mexico.

Here's a few more that I'd like to see race:

Sluggish compared to the Atom, but here's the Hayabusa-powered Super7 car:

And vice-versa, here's a BossHoss motorcycle (Chevy V8 engine):

I don't think they're quick in the 0-60, but with 355 horsepower they'll probably out-tow most SUVs. :D

And this thing defies classification, the Tomahawk. Sort of like a motorcycle, but with 4 wheels and a V-10 Dodge Viper engine:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Tomahawk
According to the official specs 0-60 mph times have been estimated at 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of 300+ mph. But there are also reports that the top speed is 676 km/h (about 450 mph).
 :D

i can outrun a porsche 911 with my Suzuki Bandit 600 ( not a supersport model). I have proven this IRL when i was challenged by a young brat with a standard Porsche 911 and a blond GF. In acceleration i always won, the Porsche did in topspeed.
It really pissed the guy off trying to show off to his GF that he was "faster" with his porsche in comparrison with my mill of the run motorcycle.
:D btw this was in my "younger" days.......
