Got one of these a couple of Summers ago, and it has been great for clearing brush in the back yard.

Until I found this forum I never even considered taking this thing into the woods. Has anyone tried it? or packed a saw of comparable...size?

Portable Buck saw 24"...packs into a 1-3/8" x 25" lightweight aluminum tube.

also comes in an 18" version.

A buddy of mine has one and it works great. He uses it canoe camping and just plain camping.

i had a colghans model a while ago, It was a great cutter, I just didn't like packing the length of it.

I've always made do with the saw in my Multitool and a Reeves double bit hatchet.

Except for the length this is looking ideal, and it will come along for car and boat camping.

This setup looks pretty good but also looks like it has the potential to be cumbersome. I carry a Wyoming Saw, it comes with two blades, one for bone and one for wood. It packs down into a leather case. I will try to post a link. I have used it alot, the blades can be replaced when they wear out.

Not trying to deal spot, this is just the first place that I could find a pic of the whole thing. http://www.cabelas.com/spod-1/0006390.shtml

Something like that would be perfect, I never liked mine because of all the huffing I did on foot, I just found it awkward, but in a canoe or car camping its invaluable.

I have both lengths and I prefer the 18" version for its ease of carry - 24" is really pretty big, and the 18" cuts big wood. Great saw. Nice round edges don't damage gear.

The only negative is that assembly takes a bit of practice, but when camping its a fun thing to do - I'm definitely not in any hurry. Not for those who are in a hurry - they'd do better with a folding saw.

Fantastic saw - handles and cuts as good as any I've used. Much more comfortable than my Sven saw.

I have the 24" exactly the same as yours.
Got mine from Lee Valley last year, and have used it in the bush several times.
It works great both for yard work and camping.

I have the 24" model. It is WAY easier than a hatchet for cutting large firewood when camping in the cold weather. I carry an extra blade with it (bone blade for hunting season). The hardest part about using it is getting it all back in the tube when you're done! :)

Stay sharp,
