Portable Coal Forge

A deep fire will be better for welding too..You need several inches of coke between your tuyere and workpiece when welding in coal..If not you get too much oxidation..You can always place a couple of firebrikes along the side Rick to make it even deeper..Our coal forge has two firebrikes stacked along each side and back so you can bank up coal for a big deep fire..

Rick, the refractory liner makes them much more efficient with charcoal consumption. It isn’t such a problem with mineral coal.

That's a great score, and a nice guy to will it like that. Just FYI, I prefer charcoal; it smells nice, won't make you gag and die like Coal smoke will etc etc.. but both work. If you WANT coal, Home Hardware can order it in. Here is some information for you on the subject and instructions how to coerce them into getting it.

Thak also sells it directly, in larger quantities. I know I bought 3 bags of it from the Home Hardware near me, and a local blacksmith gave me a couple bags (I think he's retiring) as well.
