I use a US Army tri-fold E-Tool. Does everything I need it to, is sturdy, and even cut through roots nicely. You can get 'em at Army surplus stores for, what, $10-15? Mine was given to me.
if you are going to buy a tri-folding shovel make shure it has a metal ring
(that you use to attach the handle to the shovel head)NOT a plastic one
alot of the ones you see now have the plastic rings and they get loose and crack alot easer than the metal ones(know from exp.)
I have had a Cold Steel shovel for a few years and it has been more than adequate for my needs. That said, I have read really good stuff about the Swiss Military Shovel. You can usually find them at Cheaper Than Dirt for about $25.
