Portable Stove....I caved in...

I think the Trioxane stuff you have over there is much better than the Hexamine we have here. Still, I prefer alcohol gel. It's much nicer to handle and regulate. Whilst it makes for a bigger package a tube of that works well with these. I've stuck it in a stainless steel egg cup and put that in the middle as a crucible. Less waste too 'cos you only need to add exactly the amount of fuel required and you can turn it off easily simply by occluding air. In comparison trying to turn burning tablets on and off repeatedly is a PIA and messy.

That's a great idea if you are going to use the stove at all often. If you are going to just chuck it in the car and never use it unless an emergency crops up,I'd stick to the tabs. I used some recently that have been knocking around for about 20 years. I'm only using them up because the box had started to disintegrate.

I have been using the coghlans version of that stove for 15 yrs. One in each vehicle and always in the pack. They hold 24 fuel tabs that burn 7minutes.
as mentioned put a little foil on the grate for residue and bring a large sheet of foil for windscreen which is needed.
I can boil 1 litre with 6 tabs and 2 after for simmer. Lipton trail soup good.
want to try an esbit but I have 3 coghlans already.

I tried one of those but have gone back to little white box alcohol stoves. Whatever works for you is whatever works for you.

I triple bag the fuel bars to keep the rotting shrimp smell from contaminating my food bag. That stink can gag a maggot. Even so, I use esbits to start my fires. I cut a cube into quarter pieces and it makes lighting even slightly damp wood easy.
