Porter cable makes good tools. I assume it is a belt disc combo machine. I have tried to use one for knifemaking and it is not the best for the process. It can be difficult to get close to the belt and do any type of plunge. Then for me the whole purpose of the belt is to get at the wheels for radius grinding or used for slack belt. Neither of these can be done on a standard belt disc machine. If you are looking to use it for woodworking then it will perform great.
I understand the $$ issues involved with buying a grinder. I used a 9" disc, files and die grinders for almost 20years before I built my first 2x72. If you buy a grinder buy the best you can afford and it will pay off in the end. The 2x72 is the industry standard. The KMG is the design I like the most right now.
