come on....its confession time. everyones bought a terrible terrible knife at one time in their lives...what is it and a line or two about why it was so terrible!

mine was a united cutlery elite forces tactical tanto POS...the handle is crap i stuck it in something once and my hand went straight down the blade and the finger grip on the handle actually cut my finger!

every time i get this knife out of its sheath it cuts me i have a hole in my hand where today i was wiping the oil off after sharpening and the tip stuck right in my hand! no other knife assaults me like this when im caring for it!

Thats the other thing, i can get every other knife i own to a paper-cutting edge and most of them to a shaving edge, I have a tri-hone arkansas whetstone set but this one knife is such a POS i cant even get it to paper cutting sharp. ive spent hours trying!

all in all a POS knife, it set me back about 25 pounds...that must be about $35 US too, so it wasnt even a dirt cheap POS!

The closest I have come to a POS purchase was a pretty stupid trade I made as a kid (I was around 10yrs. old I believe).

I come from a long line of knife nuts and learned really young not to even think about buying any POS knife. My father 'made' me save up for a REAL Swiss Army Knife rather than let me spend $2 on an imitation! heheh...I am thankful to this day.

Back to the trade story...

My father had my grandfathers KA-BAR, which I lusted after the first time I set eyes on it. For some reason my father thought it would help my infatuation to give me a US military M8A1 sheath (the one for Bayonets)to play with instead (wise man). Now this is where I began to stray from the fold...

My best friend Rich(the 10yr old with the Buck Special from my other story)had an old Sabre brand Japanese 'BARLOW'. The real BIG ONE with like a 4" blade. This knife was MUCH BIGGER than anything I had at that time. However it was as you say, a MAJOR POS!

Well, one day me and Rich discovered that the Buck Special fit that old M8A1 bayonet sheath. Rich thought that was really cool and using my lust for BIG BLADES worked up a trade for that old POS barlow.

I still have it to this day (that would be close to 30yrs. now)and every time I look at it I have a little chuckle at the memory. I hope Rich, where ever he may be still has that old M8A1 and enjoys a good memory on his end also.

Someday I'll tell you what happend when my father found out what I had done...........Suffice to say, I have NEVER (NO BS either)traded or purchased another POS to this day!!! Any POS you see in my collection was a gift, heheheh.

Dan, you bought one of those POS Buck 110 ripoffs as well, huh? So did I, except mine was made in China. What garbage! The blade would twist whenever I tried to cut something. Threw the darn thing out after only a few weeks. Next time I want an inexpensive knife I am going to buy an Opinel.

I carry a Chinese POS with me everyday. I cut wet stuff, get sticky UPS tape glue on it and loan it out.

Sharp? Well, the Edgepro makes it very sharp, just not for long. I do feel guilty when I reach for the Chinese knife rather than the LCC.

Would buying a better quality POS lessen the guilt?

LOL!:D

Actually, the Opinel is next on my list of knives to "terrorize". I've already reprofiled the handle, and will be adding some checkering to it. Then we'll see what kind of filework damage I can do. BTW, it's a #12, but definitely not a POJ.

Buck 110 ripoff? Oh yes. Except this one is 11" long OAL! Knife blade wiggles back and forth, and doesn't close straight.

Though, I sure wish Buck made something that size...;)

I got this Piece-O-Junk for $4. So, I decided to mess around with it a little bit.

My first real knife project - not bad, but pretty ugly.

I really like the filework on the back of the blade you did there. I hadnt seen that photo before but ive only been around a couple of weeks... did you do anymore customisations?

I will fess up.

I am pretty new to nice knives. When you don't pay much for them, you don't think much of them. As a result, I would often forget and not have one in my pocket. So... stop by the corner mart and pick up one to throw in my pocket for the day.

Probably about 5 or 6 jaguar folders in various shapes and sizes.
5 star folder (now I recognize it as a spyderco rip off)
-recently given to my uncle as he wants to play on the SS scales

It is kind of funny, once I bought better quality knives, I have never forgotten to put one in my pocket. Usually two.

I just received a piece of junk Chinese made tanto/machete off of eBay. It is 16" in overall length and made from some type of stainless steel. It has dragons etched on the blade which is cool, but the guard and pommel are made from bubble gum machine type plastic. I'm going to chop some tree branches this weekend to see how long it takes to break the handle.
Oh well! It was only $7.99:D

Pendentive, you have inspired me with your work, Im going to take one of my many CLONE POS (yes I have many, Im a sucker for them, but I also have quality pieces) and try and do some vine work to it, will see how it go's? Thank you for showing it off. I have the tools necesary for the job.

My POS was a 4 blade congress slipjoint I bought for $5 at a fleamarket,(pre 9-11) it actually looked kinda nice for a p**kstan POS knife now it just sits in my drawer ,I use it to open envelopes and stuff.

I bought a knock off SOG government for $20 off E-Bay. It wasn't well described, and I thought I was getting something for next to nothing... I read what I wanted to read...
I should'a known...

My first one-hander, bought in 1997, was a Delica knockoff with an eagle on the handle, made in Taiwan. I got it because at the time I wanted to try a one-hander but was too hesitant to spend the $40 on a real Spyderco Delica. I never could bring myself to carry it, and the only thing it taught me was I really wanted the real thing, which I got. I ended up giving the knockoff away to someone who sometimes uses it on weeds with no problems. As knockoffs go, it was not too badly-made, but a POS nonetheless that I did not want.
A worse POS was a Buck 110-shaped knockoff with a brass handle with a cougar relief on it, made in Taiwan that I bought when young. I could never, ever get it to cut a thing, and it would not take an edge to begin with. One time I lightly tried the lock, and the blade pushed closed easier than a slipjoint. The notch on the back of the blade for the lock was so soft it smoothed to the point that the lock did not even work.

These, with the exception of a few throw-away Colonial pocketknives I used as a child, are the only POS's I bought.

The conoco down the street has suddenly turned into the bud k show room. I am afraid of most of it...but this 'hawk looks fun and it is only $19.99 at the station....

The grind sucks because no matter how hard I work it with my 204, I can't get beyond a hair scraping edge (even after reprofiling to 15 degrees).
It also looks like crap because it's durn near totally rusted over... never again will I buy uncoated Carbon Steel knives.
This the knife I used to carry at school because I wanted a knife and really didn't give a rat's if it was confiscated.

My first POS's were just a couple of years ago when I first got on E-Bay. Previously I had always stuck with Buck, but wanted to go with a tactical folder, so not researching it at all I went with names that I recognized or at least thought I recognized. For less than $10 a piece I got a Browning Barracuda, a Puma SportTec and a Genisis EDI. The only one of these that is still in service is the Puma and that just sits in a tackle box. The Browning's blade broke on me with just mild use and the EDI was so stiff and unergomatic that I finally just gave it away. Other than that I've been pretty lucky other than the re-worked and fake "antiques" that I occasionally get stuck with. I do have a couple of P*k**ni's but they were bought on purpose for cutting turf in the yard, I use them a couple of times and throw them out.

My cousin bought one of those Fury fighting knives with the big finger guards and knock off Kasper style blades. I took it and while it was "locked" open and attempted to close it with one hand. The back spring popped out the handle, and the knife was done for. I gave him a Delica, he's been a happy camper since. Turns out, he wasn't too pissed I broke his 7 dollar knife ;)

At the height of the Rambo craze in the 80s I went and bought a hollow handle survival knife for the grand sum of RM20 (approx US$5). The blade is somewhere along the treeline on Pangkor Island where I flung it after it parted company with the handle while chopping. The sawteeth worked well as backscratcher though.

That reminders me... My dad bought me one of those "Rambo" things when I was about 8 or 10. We were coming home from a camping trip and stopped by a sporting goods store. I pestered my dad until he got it. I wanted the big one:D but when I got to see it back home...it LOOKED different?! Dad said it was the one I asked for (liar;)). It taught me many a good thing about how to use a knife and what a knife should have and be able to do. And especially what not to do! Because of that knife, even at that age, I could see the Buckmaster for what it is. A gimicky, over-priced, POS!

My first tac folder was a $13 special at the base exchange when I was "loaned out" to messmen duty (cook's assistant). EVERYONE borrowed that knife to cut boxes. It helped me alot and I found every use and any excuse to whip it out. It taught me everything I needed to know about folders. Odd, but it seems that what I don't want is more important that what I do want.
