Possible add to outdoor kit

That thing is basically designed to pull bodies or other objects over so you don't get a pressure-released (activated-detonated) explosive going off in your face or to otherwise activate tripwired devices. It's probably a bit too small to do the former and too specialized to do the latter. Either way, it's a cool little device but I don't think it has a place in most people's kits. Might be wrong! Someone might come up with some use for it, I just don't see it at the moment.

i could see using it to retrieve gear dropped over embankments, etc. or to grab at a canoe thats drifted off.

At that price, I'd buy it solely on the basis of "gadget value"! A couple of my gearhead friends would be more than $27 jealous!

it makes for a great waterproof capsule, and I'm looking at using the sharp pieces like spear prongs,

If you chucked them in a vise and then cut barb notches in it with a Dremel Cut-off wheel, might be pretty good! Add two small hose clamps and that would make a half-decent fish gig. I didn't go back and look at how long they were though. Might be too short for all of that to be a reality.

Now that is a real cool gadget! I want one - although it makes me feel like a mall ninja just looking at it. I always wanted a grappling hook for my kit when I was younger...

A couple of lengths of paracord though it; 350lbs weight supported - I could scale anything just like a real ninja! lol

It's a pretty cool little gadget that I would probably never have a true use for, but is cool nonetheless. I want one :)

It may have helped when my buddies son dumped one of my fishing poles over the side of the canoe in a 30' deep pond... :(

I have the smaller one and it has already proven its worth. My son dropped his skate board down a deep drainage ditch (about 8 feet) and he was able to snag it with the small grapnel hook and 550 cord and retrieve it. The larger one is a tad too large for the backpack, but the small one could prove pretty useful if you use your imagination. Without the spikes, it's pretty handy at getting cord over a high branch to hoist your food for overnight. I put one in my son's stocking (after he used mine successfully) and he loves to play around with it...I'm sure he'll find several more uses:D

I have to get the smaller one

Wouldn't gutter spikes be cheaper, albeit not as strong?

I can see several options for these really.

Gear retrieval
Hoisting food up a tree (I'd take the prongs off so they don't hang up in the branches though.
Snagging fish
Cooking (use wire to suspend pots from it, or hang food from it to cook/smoke)
Recuses
lead line throwing for larger rope
and if really needed, could be used as a flail.

LOL - I just ordered one. We'll see what I do with it when it gets here.

It's not so much the strength of the spikes that would worry me, but the aluminium tube and threads on the end cap.

I almost ordered one of these a while back. I don't know what I would do with it but they look like a ton of fun.

those thins are cool... i love grappling hooks... i was just showing those to the misses the other day...:o

countycomm is a dangerous site...:D there is all sorts of cool goodies on there...:)
