possible Brute sighting, Naked and Afraid XL

very similar to Mr Siegle's work... esp the jungle knife...

i have two hands, for $700 i can fill them

I agree.
But with dueling Siegle's they'd have to change the name of the show to just...Naked.
Hard to be afraid with one of Bill's knives in each hand. :D

Come on out my man! We'd love to have ya!
Bill always brings a nice box of awesomeness.
That man can grind some very capable blades....

Both Eva an Laura use one of mu Diving Sparrow Knives Eva uses the Parang and Laura uses the Mako . Funny someone would talk about better executed knives wouldn't you have to use it first?. Laura's has been through Naked and Afraid Amazon already 21 day without a sharpening. Lets see how my bad knives do after 40.

Hey Abe,

No one said you made a bad knife...
I think it's just the price point of the Mako that raised some eyebrows.
There are a lot of options out there for that kind of money.
It's also going to turn a lot of people off just because it's hard to justify.

I think that Mako looks pretty cool. $700 cool?....I'm not so sure. You know what I mean?:D
Ever thought of coming back with a Knifemaker title and selling on Bladeforums again?
If you did a pass around I'm sure there are quite a few here who would love to give it a go, including myself. That might change some preconcieved notions.
Congrats on the N & A exposure!

I have thought about coming back to Bladeforums more but I am a one man show and am kept so busy. It would be difficult for me to maintain a presence.

The way I look at it you have to value something in order to see the worth in it each one of those blade represents hours of physical labor and years of knife and bush craft knowledge. If it is not your cup of tea then it is ok to say that you don't value them at that much. To knock it because of the steel or just because of the price I have never understood.

If you want to see the worth of these blades just keep watching the show see if they keep cutting for the duration.

BTW I have a Brute in my collection.

Abe

I personally like the looks of both of these blades. $700 for 1095? Sure, why the hell not? There's other blade smiths that charge the same, or more for 1095. What's wrong with 1095 anyways? It's a great steel. The Becker blades we love are 1095. We're not talking mass produced blades here. These are customs, made by hand. I don't have the funds for such blades, but if I did, I'd get one. ;)

exotic steel #23 or 1095

doesn't much matter if the knife is well made/etc

maker charges what they want and the market will bear

whining about the price... hah.

Canranger,

I spoke out of turn. I have not handled or used your blade, so I was just talking looks from the photos. There are things about that Mako in the pic, that bother me just going from the photo. I didnt mean to offend or stir up any crap. Your blades may be worth three times what you charge for all I know. I was speaking personal preference though, not from any direct experience with your stuff.

All I can say about Abe's knives is that I have never owned a 1095 knife that holds an edge quite like that. My Saker is by far the sharpest tool in my shed and holds that edge for a very long time. It's also very comfortable to use for a guy like myself who has amassed more hand fractures and hand injuries to the point where it has become funny.

It's a perspective thing. 1095 is a great steel, and unless you are being unreasonable with your knife will do everything you need it to do. There's more to it, like heat treat. We romanticize the frontier days and what not and they worked with worse steel than we have now. Beckers are workhorses and they use 1095, and I really enjoy using mine and are really more knife than I personally would ever seriously need. Though would I pay extra for a well made, hand crafted tool, made by an actual human, that feels like it can cut through a beam of light and that never feels uncomfortable after prolonged use and holds an edge up to my high standards and also comes with a very nice sheath? To me, the answer was and is yes and it being my first custom I was honestly skeptical at first. At the end of the day it's whatever makes you happy and gives you that sense of satisfaction you are looking for, whether it's a $10 folder or a $1000 custom. It's why some people just don't see the value in spending even $50. If you want to Spend $1000 on a knife and you can, more power to you if it's what you want. We all like and see the value in different things.
